Forums General Chit-Chat Been veggie for a week!

Donator — They/Them Posted 6 years ago ( 2019/04/22 04:19:30 )
I decided to finally go full vegetarian and so far it has gone really well. I'm cooking my own meals three times a day and eating healthier snacks, my next step is to start going for runs and to pick up a little bit of yoga. I'm feeling pretty good about myself and haven't felt as bloated recently! Is anyone else here vegetarian? Any suggestions for recipes, how to make sure you're getting enough vitamins/protein/etc?

I’m not vegetarian now, but I used to be.
Eat nuts and legumes, make sure you’re getting enough aminoacids.
I will repeat this until the cows come home, stay away from SOY products, it’s not good for you long term.

@totalanimefan: Soy contains phytoestrogens, compounds that disrupt hormones, as well as isoflavones that mimic estrogen. Women who consume high amounts of phytoestrogens may experience a higher chance of being infertile, and soy can reduce a males sperm count.
Soy has been linked to early puberty in girls, onset puberty starting as early as the age of 6!
Also, because of phytoestrogens interfering with normal horomone balances, they have been tied to cancer, particularly ovarian and breast.

Fermented Soy is safe, it changes the soy’s structure.
Miso, tempeh, tamari are examples of fermented soy.

It’s insane how much soy is in our foods, it’s found in the majority of processed and prepackaged foods, often hidden in flavor enhancers (MSG) and preservatives. The majority of soy is also genetically modified, so if the soy you’re eating isn’t organic, chances are you are eating a Frankenfood product. If you’re seeking to protect your reproductive, mental, and overall health, I highly recommend reducing, if not eliminating, most forms of soy from your diet.

@Peachy: Hey, sorry for the really delayed response. I just want to say thank you for the info, I knew a bit about soy being not so good for you and that it shouldn't be your primary source of protein but yikes. That is awful! Also tbh I think I might have an intolerance to it as I've noticed when I do eat soy based foods that my stomach gets angry at me, makes more noise and feels weird.

One half of the week, my meals are vegetarian or even vegan. As Peachy explained, soy isn’t too good for you and I’m intolerant to most nuts.

I keep my vitamin levels up with vitamin pills, eating more veggies and by drinking oatmeal drinks with added vitamin B13 and D every now and then.

We have a brand with vegan “meat” products (chicken, kebab, even fish) that I sometimes use through meals. Otherwise, I use beans with it.
