I've been having issues with pings lately a lot, too :c
I notice if I forget to confirm I've read a ping by the same person and they ping me again, it'll still only say '1' new ping. The ping thing is still largely a mystery to me. XD
Definitely some bugs there, but I'm sure it's being worked on.
It'll get figured out eventually.
