Ash... didn't respond at first.

Didn't even seem to notice she was there... until he whirled his head around to look at her.

"STOP ME!" he yelled.

"I CAN'T CONTROL IT!" he told her.

"...." he was then silent, before she saw his eyes darken a little.

Whatever was happening, it was clear that the curse was starting to take over.

But why? Why here? Why now?

Why can't I just be
The one

Kiah didn't have time to debate what was going on at this point. She knew that she had to deal with this, tend to it, make sure that this was quelled before more were caught within in.

And more importantly, before he sealed anyone.

She didn't say anything before she just punched him, harder than he would have likely expected, right on the left temple. That one hit had enough force to it to knock him off his feet for the moment, but she wasn't sure if it was enouugh to knock him out, and kill the rune.

It was quickly shown that it wasn't.

"... dammit." She muttered before sighing and just stamping a foot, forcefully, on the floor. As she did that, Ash was able to feel his rune be overwhelmed - albeit barely. As her own spread out, and she was fighting with it herself, she was watching Ash.

He had better control of his rune than she did hers, but she knew that hers was, inherently due to the bloodline positioning, stronger than his. It didn't take long before she just quelled the rune, the mana from it vanishing. She was barely able to hold herself up for the moment due to the mana that was used taking a bit of a toll on her. She had to make sure that Ash wasn't going to do another, though.

It seems her combination of physical and mana dominance had worked. Ash's rune dissipated into nothing, and Ash himself was dazed.

Hal suddenly came to, and shook his head.

"Kiah!" he exclaimed.

"Kiah, are you all right?" he asked.

He, himself, was feeling out-of-sorts, still... but that didn't matter to him.

Right now, Kiah's welfare was top priority.

Kiah just sighed before rolling one of her shoulders. She honestly looked ready to punch him again.

"Nevermind me. Are you going to go apeshit with a rune again?" She asked, her voice both concerned and lacking much patience.

"And what the hell caused it! Hals not a bad guy. There's no way he pissed of you to that level."

Ash looked to be... scared.

Honestly scared.

"I... I don't know." he admitted.

"I was... it wasn't Agent Sharp..." he told her.

"I was talking with him... and then... I heard this... this cry..." he continued.

"It was Agent Gardner." Hal interjected.

"It was getting closer, and... and then the rune just... activated." Ash then said.

"The mana just... seemed to take over..."

"Sierra's just down the hall." Kiah told him honestly.

"Probably not doing so hot, as it seems Hal isn't either." She added before sighing.

"But the rune just..." She paused, seemed to be thinking about it for a moment before sighing.

"Do the world a favour - go talk to your mom." She told him plainly.

"Since we both know that she knows most about the rune of all of us living."

Ash was silent for a moment, before nodding.

"R-right." he said.

"I..." he stammered.

"I should... apologise to agent Gardner." he then mumbled. "As a spirit, she's probably all sorts of messed up right now." he commented further.

Hal just rose to his feet.

"Make sure you do." he said.

Ash could only look away guiltily, not making eye contact with anyone.

"...that... that hasn't happened in... forever." he said quietly. "Why... why NOW...?" he asked, knowing she couldn't answer, but merely wishing to get it out of his system.

He then just shook his head, and left.

Kiah just sighed before looking over to Hal. Being what one could argue is a soulless being, she was sure he'd be all right.

Sierra, on the other hand, was sitting against the wall in the hall, seeming to be flickering in and out of existence for the moment. She didn't even notice Ash's approach, was too busy trying to get her existence back on par again.

As Ash approached, he could see remaining echoes of the rune across her skin, but they were fading. However, not supre fast.

"......." Ash felt a wave of guilt wash over him.

"Um..." he stammered.

"Hey..." he said.

"Let... let me help with that..." he offered.

"Those traces are really messing with you." he said further. "I can get rid of them." he told her.

"Let me help?" he almost pleaded.

Sierra was silent for a moment before sighing.

"y-yeah... please..." She said, her voice quieter than usual.

"Th-thank you..." She added after a few more seconds.

Ash just nodded and reached forward, pulling the echoes off of her, and back into himself.

The process was definitely uncomfortable for her, but when it was done, she felt... herself again. Whole again... as much as she could be.

Ash, then clutched at his head, and growled a little, before shaking it slightly.

"I'm sorry." he apologised, falling to his knees.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." he went on.

"It just happened. I'm sorry." he repeated again.

Sierra didn't say anything for a few seconds before she got to her feet.

". . . I..." She started before pausing and stepping back from him.

". . . Why? Why do you insist on doing this?" She asked, taking another step back, but not saying anything regarding why.

"I'm sorry!" Ash exclaimed.

"I don't know!" he said.

"I didn't do it on purpose!" he insisted.

He then looked at her, tears in his hollow black eyes...

...as the rune started to spread out again.

However, Ash didn't seem to notice, as he got up and started to take a step towards her.

Sierra was silent, backing up again before realising she'd never be able to outrun the rune that was spreading out, reaching her very quickly.

She didn't delay before looking to Ash, and just opening her mouth. He was able to see her face seem to split in two, before she just screamed.

It was a full on banshee scream, although there was a barrier around her and him. She was aiming for Ash, not for the others int eh building.

Her scream hit Ash, and it hit him hard.

He could swear he felt his skull splitting open, and red started to trickle out from his ears.

As this happened, the rune started to falter and wane... before it abruptly disappeared.

As soon as this happened, Ash fell to his knees.

And then onto his front.

He twitched a little, but it was clear that he was dead.

Sierra's first instinct was to turn and run.

So that's what she did.

Meanwhile, Ash found himself feeling more normal than he had been previously.

". . . Suffice to say, this wasn't according to plan." He heard from behind him.

Ash paused when he heard the voice behind him.

He contemplated not answering, but knew that wasn't an option.

"...I..." he stammered.

"I feel... clearer now." he said, turning and facing the one that was there.

"Sorry..." he apologised.

"I know I was a disgrace back there." he said.

"I just... my rune was acting up for... some reason..."

The one he was speaking to was silent for a moment before smiling softly.

"You weren't a disgrace, AJ." She assured him.

"If anything, your ability to hold back was rather amazing." She added.

"This a shame though. With what is going on, it may be awhile before anything good truly happens."

Ash was about to say something, but paused suddenly.

"I..." he stammered.

"Wait, what?" he asked.

"With what is going on?" he asked her.

"What IS going on?" he asked further.

"The rune's never done this before. I don't know why my control over it just... slipped." he said. "It was as though... something just unlocked the 'room' I keep it in." he muttered.

"But... seriously, what IS going on?" he asked her again.

"You seem to know. But... well, that's because you know everything. Well, almost. Literally." he added at the end.

"Well, I cannot give all information freely." She told him.

"But I will say this - be careful who you let touch you." She continued. "for you never know how their mana is."

"Ah, right, you aren't suppsed to be as you are." She said, suddenly jumping topics for a moment before shaking her head and holding her hand out to him, an orb of mana atop it.

"This will revive you. It won't be super quick, will likely take a few minutes, but shouldn't be longer than 5."
