Yo.
So, I've recently started getting (or trying to) back in to anime. I had a mega weeb phase when I was younger which never fully went away. I just stopped watching new anime at some point as I'm a bigger gamer than anything else. So, naturally, I started playing more games.
BUT
I'm trying to find a balance and get back into it. Honestly, I just miss the awesome stories.
So, some of my favorites are Cowboy Bebop (above all), Naruto, Dragonball, Death Note, Michiko to Hatchin, Champloo.. a whole buncha basic stuff. I did recently pick up Demon Hunter, though. Good stuff.
I say all this to say, any suggestions are welcome. And what's some of your favorites?
EDIT: The short animes are definitely welcome. If it's long, just make it epic.
Forums General Chit-Chat Favorite Anime/Suggestions?
@Totalanimefan: Those are definitely the top 2 suggestions I get lol. I have to really just sit down with both and get past the first hump, I think. If One Piece has lasted as long as it has, I have to assume it's pretty damn good.
I kept telling myself it's too long. Then, I remember I sat through all of Naruto since 5th grade.

@Totalanimefan: Yeah, I just tend to get sidetracked and then forget I'm even watching certain series sometimes lol. Might try to maybe make myself a sort of schedule? Like when I was younger and would watch episodes after school haha. Yeah, Jump has almost never steered me wrong, so maybe I'll give MHA another shot.
Those more regular ones about life sound like something I might try out. I never really watched them when I was younger. But as I get older, I find myself more interested in those.

I was just going to suggest My Hero Academia and Demon Hunter, but I see those were already covered. xD I recently got into both series myself.
I loved Naruto btw, but for some reason have no interest getting into Boruto.
Hmmm, favorites...Gurren Lagaan is somewhat of a shorter but older series, but super good if you enjoy mecha (which is odd for me since I usually don't care for it). If you're into cooking, I may recommend Food Wars, which I believe just finished another season (there are 5 I think)? I've also started The Great Pretender, which is on Netflix, but I think it's great so far.

I recently started watching one about a cat who works in an office and sings like death metal in her free time. It’s not really story oriented and it’s funny. My favorite is Naruto. I like fruits basket but really I prefer to read the manga instead of watching the anime. My kids tend to take control of my TV anyways.

hunter x hunter i would consider like a classic/og shonen similar to naruto and my hero, i think naruto was heavily influenced/inspired by hxh? i believe the whole series is free on crunchyroll last time i checked. on the longer side, and i think the 2011 remake is a little nicer?
i watched this when i was much younger but i enjoyed flcl, i think it's v stylized and dynamic in a way that someone who enjoyed bebop and champloo might appreciate. it is a little surreal but v fun from what i remember. relatively short series
fullmetal alchemist brotherhood is pretty good imo, just really well written, does have some darker/more intense moments though

@Aisukohi: I've had alot of people suggestion Gurren because I told them I wanted something like death note. Apparently, they draw a lot of comparisons. What do you think?
I haven't been able to get into Boruto either.. maybe I'll give it a full swing, though. Just in case.
@Peptobismol: what is this death metal kitty anime called?
@xvz: FLCL was one of my favoritessss. So non-sensical. But so chill. The vibes were right. I still need to watch the returned episodes.

@xvz: Sameeee. I'm pushing 30 and still want that damn Vespa. Already told my s/o that after we get this house, a Vespa is still pretty high on priority list. Once I get that, life is accomplished. I tried getting my mom to get me one when I was a kid after watching FLCL lol.
@Xaphiel: aggretsuko I think I don’t know how to spell it. It’s on Netflix.
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

@Peptobismol: OHHHH thats what that is?? Lol, we sell so much merch for that in my store. I had no idea what it was, though. Now, I have to check it out.
@Xaphiel: I've never gotten into Death Note, so can't comment on that. But I really love Gurren both for the art style and the character and plot development.
And +1 vote for Aggretsuko because it's so good and I relate to the main character so much. XD
Blood+ is another series I loved and want to rewatch. It's about a rivalry between two vampire sisters: one good, and one evil. It's got some dark themes to it.
Oh and Durarara! Not sure if you've seen it, but if you've seen a female character in a black catsuit and yellow bike helmet with cat ears, that's where that came from. So good, and somewhat of an older series as well.

@xaphiel
Anime that I've gotten into:
Sailor Moon
Tenchi Muyo/Tenchi Universe (if you like non sexual harem Anime)
Cowboy Beebop (that you've mentioned)
Cardcaptor Sakura
Chobits
Fruits Basket (older or 2019 version, also mentioned)
Monster Musume (Also a harem Anime but a bit more sexualized)
Witch Hunter Robin (It's been a while since I've seen this, but thought it was cool at the time)
Ghost Hunt (if you like paranormal without being super scary)
Ouran High School Host Club (If you like a sort of reverse harem with cute guys)
Sugar Sugar Rune ( Cute witches meet magical girl. Only in subtitled version that I've found)
If any of these interest you, I hope you enjoy them?

"Oh, the tired horror!"
i just did a quick skim so sorry if any of these are repeats / consider them a +1 if they are!
i like a lot of slice of life and magical girls and these are some of my favorites:
Barakamon -- calligrapher with anger issues gets sent to an island to learn patience & self-control, meets the "wacky locals" who take him in, 10/10 heartwarming
Princess Jellyfish / Kuragehime -- Tsukimi and her friends are a bunch of otakus who live together, swearing off men and pretty/popular people forever in an apartment complex they call the Nunnery. Each of them have their prefered topic of nerdom, and Tsukimi's is jellyfish. Her life is turned upside down when a pretty woman helps her save a jellyfish-- and things get even stranger when she learns that this pretty woman is a man who enjoys wearing women's clothes to avoid the obligations of politics and to feel closer to his mother. Lifetime fave!!
Beyond the Boundary / Kyoukai no Kanata -- I can never describe this one very well so I sniped the description from Wikipedia; "One day, high school student Akihito Kanbara instinctively goes to save his fellow schoolmate, Mirai Kuriyama, from committing suicide. Following his pleas, Mirai suddenly stabs Akihito with a sword formed out of her own blood and is shocked to discover that Akihito is an immortal "half-youmu"—the offspring of a supernatural creature, called a youmu, and a human. After learning that Mirai is a Spirit World Warrior (異界士, Ikaishi)—specialists who protect humans from being affected by youmu—and the last surviving member of her spirit hunting clan, their lives become intertwined as Akihito seeks to help Mirai gain the confidence to kill youmu so that she may stop attempting to kill him as practice." --- really good, I need to rewatch soon.

definitely get on the Attack on Titan hype train
same director as Death Note so you know the suspense is *chef's kiss*
based on your faves, I recommend Baccano. it's a mafia story set in prohibition era America, with a dash of supernatural.
the characters are fun, the action is stylish, it has a killer jazzy soundtrack and a unique way of storytelling.
also only 13 eps
my favorite anime is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and I'll always recommend it to everyone ;3c
it's a masterpiece from start to finish and never skips a beat.
