"You are my nomination." he said.

"Me?" Azazel asked.

"As a demon, you are nigh-indestructible to anything this realm has to offer, and you resist most mana." Hal responded. "You are the perfect middle ground between Agent King and Agent LeBlanc." he reasoned.

"...well, can't fault THAT." Azazel admitted.

"All right, then I will accompany them."

Hal was silent for a moment, before hanging his head slightly.

"Very well." he said.

"What!?" Azazel exclaimed.

"I don't like it, but she DOES know the ins and outs of that complex." Hal responded. "And we're still under truce, so we have no reason to not trust her right now." he added.

"..." Azazel was silent for another moment, before growling lowly.

"I can't argue that." he admitted.

Vanessa didn't smirk or anything. She just shrugged.

"That place is loaded with traps, and only those with any sort of idea as to where any of them are will be able to avoid them." She then said.

"And no, they are largely not identifiable by sight. If they were, they wouldn't be very effective, would they?" She asked

"You're selling past the close." Hal told her.

"I figured that was the reasoning." he said further.

"Regardless, you 5 will be the team." he then told the group.

"Now get out there, stop Vyran, and save this world from destruction!" he ordered.

"Yes, sir!" Azazel responded with a stiff stance and a small salute. It might have been corny, but he was a demon. And in the presence of strong leadership that they respected, they would become, essentially, an army.

Vanessa just rolled her eyes as she got to her feet.

"You know I am only doing this because this planet actually matters to me, right?" She asked. After Hal confirmed that he was aware of that little detail, she nodded.

"Good." She then approached the others, smirking lightly.

"Well then, I do hope you all are ready." she stated. "Likely going to be empty of life, but the air may still be toxic." As she spoke, she had mana forming in her hands, ready to be released to get them to their destination

Azazel just looked at the trio.

"Brace yourselves..." he said ominously.

"Wha...?" Adym mumbled confusedly.

"Just trust me." Azazel told him.

"This will not be pleasant." he warned, before looking at Vanessa.

"Do it." he said.

Vanessa nodded, then before anyone had a chance to do anything more, the mana she had in her hands split, releasing from the orb shape and encircling them. The next thing that they all knew, they were in an underground area, a dimly lit hall, and there was a dusty style smoke that was around them as well.

Lyrei shook her head, having not expected how that felt, but overall she was all right.

Callie staggered back to the wall, hands on her knees as she tried to stop the world from spinning and throwing her off.

Adym fell to his knees from what happened, as Azazel created a circle of demonic mana around them.

"This smoke is deadly." he said.

"I can feel it." he growled.

"You." he then said to Lyrei. "You control runes, yes?" he asked.

"Can you put up some on yourselves to act as a filter of sorts?" he asked her further.

"Because I have a feeling you'll need it. Or at least, THOSE two will." he went on, looking at Callie and Adym.

"I can't keep this circle up while we're moving." he then added.

Lyrei paused to think about it for a moment.

"I would need to know what it is that I'm actually protecting against." She stated.

"More specific than just 'this toxic stuff'." she added. Vanessa paused a moment, thinking about something.

"It's a paralytic mixed with a hallucinogenic." She stated. Lyrei nodded, thought about it for a few, before stepping up to Callie, tracing a figure onto her hand, and doing the same to Adym.

"Should help, I think. " She said.

"Thanks. It's... also really fruity down here." Callie commented.

"Intentional. When I created this poison, I did not want someone to be repulsed by the scent. so I made sure it was nice, that way any fuckers that are actually targetted are drawing in toward it, not away from it." Vanessa told her honestly.

"..." Adym was silent, horrified to hear this, and Azazel just shrugged.

"Makes sense." he said.

"Will YOU be all right?" Adym asked him.

"Oh, yeah." Azazel replied.

"I'm a demon. This kind of thing really doesn't work on the... uh... reasonable facsimile of an internal system that I have." he explained.

"In short, I can wander through this no problem." he concluded, before looking at Vanessa again.

"Still... impressive." he told her, in a rare compliment that showed he was still a demon, conscience or not.

"However, there is little time to waste. Are you three good to go?" She then asked.

"I'm fine." Lyrei answered. "I'm basically dead anyway." She added with a chuckle.

Adym merely nodded and stood up, albeit shakily.

"I'm okay." he said.

"...you sure?" Azazel asked.

"That transport was just jarring and... weird." Adym replied.

"...oh. Right. Wood elf." Azazel remembered.

"Well, seeing as I'm pretty sure Vanessa wasn't actively trying to make you a braindead puppet, you'll be able to shake it off shortly, I'm sure." he then reasoned, looking at Vanessa once more.

"Let's move." he told her.

Vanessa didn't say anything, just turned and headed off with the others following.

"Ignore the bodies that will likely be anywhere and everywhere." She commented.

"If we can ever see the floor, that is. Just mind your steps otherwise." She continued.

"I'm leaving mana orbs where there are trap tiles, so do make sure to avoid them."

The group followed her, with Adym looking at the dead bodies that were strewn about... the sheer amount was terrifying. Or it would be, had he not already seen enough death in his life, much like any and all of the cruxes.

However, he noticed they had stopped, and saw Vanessa and Azazel looking at something. The smoke was starting to clear JUST enough that bodies were starting to be vaguely recognisable in the distance, but the two of them were staring at one in specific.

"...huh." Azazel mumbled.

"Is it just me, or does he look like he dragged himself to that point, given the position he's in?" he asked Vanessa.

"Don't get me wrong, I don't feel his soul is there, he's definitely gone, but... seems he had some more agony than the rest here."

Vanessa was silent as she stepped up to the form on the floor.

"... huh." She mused with a chuckle.

"Good." She said simply.

"That worm deserved to suffer." was more venom to her voice than Az had ever heard from her thus far, and it was jarring. She'd seemed reasonable and such back at the Unit, but now? Now she honestly seemed like the monster that he believed, and knew, she truly was.

"Pitiful creature." he said, lightly nudging the body with his foot.

"Good riddance to bad rubbish." he snarled.

"..." Adym was silent, and looked concerned, seeing this supposed new side of Azazel.

"Heh." Azazel then chuckled.

"Too bad you didn't get to watch him suffer."

"better I wasn't here. He died alone." She added.

"You two! Come on!" She called back, as Callie slid her hand into Adym's.

"You ok?" She asked the elf quietly as they started to approach the others.

Adym gripped Callie's hand, and walked with her, biting his bottom lip slightly.

"...I think so." he whispered back.

"...the one that's supposed to be on OUR side is scaring me, though." he admitted.

"The fact that he's agreeing with this... woman, is... it's frightening." he went on.

"He's a .... a...." Lyrei started, pausing.

"Dammit, the word eludes me... the equivalent to a void-dweller back home." She added.

"Demon." Callie commented.

"So that's probably his normal nature or something. Demon's can be good or evil, I guess he's just got streaks of both, or something. That's what I was able to gather, anyway."
