@Juliette: :viosad: *hugs* i hope it gets better.
i never know how to deal with my funks either so i don't really have advice.
treat yourself if you can, to get a little serotonin boost.
i do that when i can afford it.

@MoodyB: i can't tell, actually.
i mean i'm not an artist so my opinion isn't knowledgeable. but i really liked the way you used colours in the Saturn piece.
you'd know better than i do about where you need improvement. but i also think we're our own harshest critics.

i understand. it's nice that you decided to focus on art.
i go to kofk for the pets and recolor to RP, i'm also starting up a couple of RPs on here.
but this is probably where i chat most.

@Whimsy: -hugs back- Thanks. :) I think it probably has to do with me not making the most of my life like getting a job, making friends, etc. I feel like I’m stuck in a monotonous loop of my life.

I eat too much sugar when I’m feeling depressed. xD

Voltie — she/her Posted 4 years ago ( 2021/04/10 10:28:22 )

@Juliette: i know that feeling. but i also think that the point of doing all those things in life is supposed to be my own happiness.
and i'm in my 20s now but i might still be figuring things out like my career and stuff when i'm in my 30s tbh.
i'm not too fussed about achieving things right now. i'll do what i can, but sometimes i can't find anything to do.
i used to feel guilty whenever i wasn't 'productive' but i've tried to change that.

i also feel like it's partly covid? my life pretty much came to a halt when covid hit the scene.
i don't know when things will really change, but there's not much i can do about the pace of my life right now.

i crave desserts when i'm depressed. also kimchi and ramen! my comfort foods.

@Whimsy: Yeah, I was also talking to a friend of mine about this and they said that I was making progress and to take it one step at a time which helped make me feel better.

I was even more depressed and claustrophobic last year because of COVID. ;_; Things are getting better now though, I think.

I love cookies, ice cream, chocolate and brownies. xD I constantly need sugar every day, it’s a serious addiction. xD

@Juliette: yeah. i don't think any generation before ours had this need to achieve success and have our lives in order so soon.
it's not normal to want to monetise all our hobbies and 'self-optimise'.
or to believe that we need to be achieving something with every bit of our time.
capitalism wants to make it look normal,
but all that 'hustle' and influencer culture... isn't normal.

it's just given me burnout.

things will slowly get better, yeah.
it has been so long but change will come.

i love chocolate! chocolate and coffee flavoured desserts are amazing. i also love citrusy desserts like lemon tarts and berry compote on cake.

@Whimsy: yeah, even though we are our worst critiques, i think it can be a good thing.
as i am a very self-aware person of my work and what i need to work on.
I do like my work but I need to work on drawing/painting clothing and hair.

tho i love to work on makeup quite a bit when it comes to drawing.

Yeah, a lot of sites i felt i wasted a lot of time that could've been used towards my work.
so i cut a lot of them out.

i usually got onto kofk for art commissions on my art shop
but then it failed as my art shops just are constantly a failure lol.
so i just decided to give up on it

@MoodyB: yeah, i guess self-criticism is good as long as it's constructive and not crippling
and we remember to be kind to ourselves too.
wanting to improve at something you enjoy is a good motivation

i understand. i prioritised different things too as time went on.

do people tend to buy a lot of art on avi sites? i feel like you might have better success at selling art on a big site like gaia or on places like deviantart, maybe.
but i also don't know much about selling art or where people tend to concentrate selling art.

@Whimsy: I usually try to have rational criticism and my friend
makes sure i do not go too far with the critiques of myself lol.
it evens out.

People used to buy art a lot on avi sites but no idea if that's changed.
even on gaia my art does not sell hardly lol.

so i just gave up on shops in general.

@MoodyB: It's nice that you have a friend who can keep your self-criticism in check

I see. Maybe it has changed because fewer people go on avatar sites nowadays.
I don't know though.

I have a tarot reading shop here and it rarely gets customers, but I just keep it up.
Most of the time I forget about it and continue doing tarot stuff outside of it.
And if every once in a while someone does want a reading, I'll see a ping or see it in my bookmarks.
But I don't bump the thread or anything. I kind of expected that I wouldn't get customers often, and I was right.
I guess the reason I wasn't very disappointed is cause I didn't have much expectations.

However I get how it might be demoralising in the case of an art shop.
You'll wonder if your art isn't good enough and that's why people aren't buying it- when actually people probably aren't looking to buy art.
And that's why they're passing by your shop.
But it would affect you mentally if you thought your art wasn't appealing to buyers.
So I'm sorry that happened :viosad: but your art is lovely and I'm glad you decided to do away with the shops if they weren't serving you and your art. And decided to focus more on developing your art further.

@Whimsy: it's still very much demoralizing why my art doesn't sell.
Not just on avatar sites but in general.

and i only get bots for followers mostly too so im just kinda...not really sure
what im doing with my work at this point lol.

@MoodyB: I'm jealous of your art skills, to be honest.
But I also know that in your shoes I would be demoralised too.
I wish I had any suggestions but I can't understand it either.

@Ava: Absolutely, this is an open hangout!
Plus we've talked before, on this site as well as Trisphee and Mene
I already think of you as a friend or at least a very familiar acquaintance.
And I'm happy to have one more person to talk to in this hangout!

I like that. I should branch out more too.

@Ava: On Trisphee I was called Exulansis, then Sternum, now I'm daikokunyo
On Mene I was starferry for a while, then Dandelioness, then Siren Sonder.
Getting tired of my old usernames was a bad habit I had but I'm pretty happy with my usernames now lol.

Chatting while sipping tea sounds like a lovely way to relax and get your online time too!
My timezone is half a day's difference from people in the US so I'm usually online now.
(It's noon for me.)

@Ava: HIHI! Yeah, I don't often have the same usernames on different sites. Maybe I should.

It's good to have a relaxing tea before you go to bed, too. Help you sleep better!

My day didn't start out great but it's definitely improving! I'm looking forward to lunch and in the meanwhile I'm watching videos on how to make gnocchi.

my art skills are not very good lol

@MoodyB: I can't believe that your art skills are not very good. I mean, I literally can't tell.
Your art looks good when I look at it so now I'm having a bit of a crisis lol.
But I hope you focus as much on what you enjoy about making art, as you do on what you want to improve.

@MoodyB: that is a lot to learn but you might have fun at learning it, hopefully. i know that when a hobby becomes serious that's not always the case. but here's hoping. *hugs*
good luck, and keep looking back on how much you've improved and how far you've come. there's a long way for you to go but you've also come a long way since you started.

@Ava: stuff that's good for our bodies/health so often tastes yuck it's so unfair.
i saw a recipe for sweet potato gnocchi i want to try sometime! when we find sweet potatoes
i'm glad you had a good sleep! i'm sorry you've been stressed; is it better now?

how are y'all finding the event? the little games where we interact with the NPCs seem so cute! i played vivienne's today and i'm looking forward to the others!
