Forums General Chit-Chat My doggo has been sick

Donator — ghost Posted 7 years ago ( 2017/11/7 19:46:39 )

So I adopted this 4 year old Maltese mix to be my therapy animal in September. He's been absolutely amazing and I love him to death. But when I adopted him, I was told he had a double ear infection, heartworms and kennel cough and he would need lots of vet visits and treatment and medicine to get better. I used to rescue sick kittens from the euth list at my local animal control center by fostering them and nurse them back to health, adopt them once they were big enough, then find them new homes. So I thought this would be a piece of cake compared to all the kittens that have come through my home. But boy it's starting to wear on me.

My boy started his second round of HW treatment yesterday and gets his last injection today. He's in a lot of pain and other than giving him his pills on time, there isn't really anything I can do to comfort him. His ear infection never cleared up so they gave me extra strength ear drops yesterday to start giving him and he fights back as hard as he can when I have to hold his head down for the drops and since he's in pain, it's really not good for him to be fighting back with me. It's just so hard to watch him go through all this, I've had him taking multiple medications since I brought him home, it's insane. I just feel so bad for him, idk what to do for him. :c He isnt' allowed to play during HW treatment, he could go into cardiac arrest if he gets too excited, so I have to keep him in his crate a lot and we can't go for long walks and he gets lethargic and looks so sad sometimes. It's like he isn't allowed to be a dog. I feel awful.

I just wanted to get this out, it's something I've wanted to talk to someone about for a long time.

@Ghostie: Aww what a cutie. Glad you where willing to help this poor dog. One of our cats has sneez desease? (not sure what it's called in english). She needs treatment but she makes it really hard. My mom even got scratches because of her. Today she was suppose to go the vet but the cat ran away as soon as mom apeared.

@Taemins Lover: That's good to hear c: My rats are very healthy but they were sick when I brought them home and required a few vet trips and two medications. It's hard to find vets who even do anything for pocket pets. I always end up with the sick ones. I guess I take them because I KNOW they will get what they need with me, rather than going to someone who can't care for a sick animal.

@Ghostie: that is true. I got fluff from the people who got them from the shelter. He had fleas but they were easily taken Care of.

@Taemins Lover: Yeah fleas don't take much to get rid of if you catch it early before they're all over your home. My parents didn't know how to deal with fleas and we had a BAD infestation when I was young and they had cats. You couldn't walk through my living room in socks without them completely covering the rim of your sock biting around your leg. Nasty!

@Ghostie: oh my goodness! That sounds terrible. My roommates last year left their doge have fleas doe the longest time and reinvested fluff. I had to get really strong flea medication for it. Finally they moved out and there are no fleas and me fluff its of meds now

@Taemins Lover: Glad that got taken care of! Fleas are such a pain if they go unchecked.
