Forgive, O Lord,
my little jokes on thee...

"Well, if you lay low here, it might buy you some time." Lindsay said.

"It depends on if the Fallen were specifically targeting you and seeing you out, or if it was more of an attack of opportunity." he told her. "Unfortunately, the only way to tell is to... well... wait." he sighed.

That's when he felt the familiar mana of his brother in the kitchen.

"I'm back!" he called, making his way to where his brother and wife were.

"Hey." he greeted Ashleigh.

"Still feeling like garbage?" he asked.

...and I'll forgive thy

"Yo." Ashleigh greeted with a wave.

"And Lindsay, I know. It's not fun, but at least it's easy." She said with a light sigh before looking back to Ash.

"Yes. Yes I am. I feel absolutely miserable,a nd don't know why. So that's fun."

Ash just sighed heavily.

"Wunnaful." he mumbled.

"Well, lemme know if there's anything I can do for you, culinary-wise." he said.

"The guild is... majorly scaling back operations, and I'm still technically recovering, so I find myself with a lot of spare time on my hands." he told her.

"So whatever you want. Lemme know, I'll make it for you." he insisted.

"Anything to help make whatever this is a little more bearable."

"Cass agreed to keep an eye out for Casey?" Ashleigh asked.

"Lindsay mentioned you were off to talk with her about that." She added after a moment or two.

"And how IS she and Addy doing?"

He nodded.

"She did." he said.

"She'll keep her ears to the ground, so to speak." he told her.

"And... well... her and Addison are stressed." he then mumbled.

"To understate it." he said further.

"But they're managing. They're just hoping that the Argento line isn't worth the attention of the Fallen."

"Being top tier for the pure mages on the planet? Yeah, no. I can't fault them for thinking that they might be on the radar." Ashleigh commented.

"Lux is stupidly defensive though." She continued.

"I dunno about you, but I'm reasonably certain that nothing is getting into there easily."

"Not easily for sure." Ash chuckled.

"But... yeah, things are a bit hectic." he mumbled.

He then shook his head and sank into a nearby chair.

"...really wish I knew what to do here." he muttered.

"But I barely won against ONE Fallen." he lamented.

"...ONE Fallen, WITH a heavenly sword." Lindsay corrected him.

"The one that came at me didn't have anything legendary like that, andI barely survived. Ash, you're far more well equipped than I am to deal with them." She added.

"Not.. sure how. You'd think the draconmic element would givve me a boost." She added before shrugging.

"regardless. Shit's gettin' real. Thankfully, we're all right for the moment, as are those we care about. For the moment, at least."

"For now." Ash said.

"We need to be ready to defend ourselves at a moment's notice." he reasoned.

"Indeed." Lindsay agreed.

"I'll tell you one thing, though, I don't envy Sydney right now." Ash then said.

"She's pulling double-duty as the main medic at Lux, AND has a major role in all this as one of the heads of the Triad."

Ashleigh just sighed.

"Here's hoping." was all she said. She didn't really know what else TO say. Just knew that they didn't have any sort of envy for the woman, but aShleigh also wanted to go and offer to help.

If she could have, she would have.

---

She groaned as she finally managed to get her ass home. She hadn't been there in what felt like forever, had been just going between the Triad and council for meetings, and the guild. It was back and forth.

Now? Now she was able to finally get home.

As she stepped through the portal, she flicked the lightswitch on the wall by her, and kicked off her shoes as the portal closed behind her.

"Fuck it's good to be home." She muttered as she made her way to where she had her crack, her coffee, and started to prepare some for herself. She paused as she reached the counter though, having heard something. She was silent, listening to her surroundings.

Was that a footsteps she'd heard?

my little jokes on thee...

No sooner had she stopped to listen, the footsteps stopped. And it was silent. Almost eerily silent.

So she went back to making her coffee... when he heard the footsteps again. Again she stopped, and again, all she heard was silence. So she started up AGAIN, and AGAIN she heard the footsteps. But she continued to work, stopping after 10 seconds, and the steps stopped as well.

She wasn't hearing things.

There were DEFINITELY footsteps. And they were close.

Just as she readied herself for anything... a figure leaped out from one of the doorways and charged straight at her. One that had a cracked halo above their head.

She was a hunter, and a vampire. She was able to pick up on the charge and dodged it quietly, making sure to smash the coffee pot that she had in her hands against the figures head hard enough to shatter the pot. As the figure recoiled and shrieked in pain, she smirked. Theyh were dark, covered in shadows, but looked normal beyond that.

damn She thought, noticing the cracked and bent halo, Must be one of the Fallen I've heard are causing problems. No sooner as she finished that though, did she realise that there was a fist coming for her. Sure enough, she ducked below it, causing them to just completely miss her.

She looked to the coffee that was now not going to be enjoyed by her, and turned to head off to her room. She had an emergency button system up there.

If this WAS a fallen, she wasn't entirely sure she could completely take them herself, so she wanted to call in some help.

As she ran through the house, she head her assailant screaming out in pain, which brought a small smirk to her face. However, the satisfaction was, sadly, short-lived, as she suddenly sensed something ELSE.

She stopped JUST as a door in front of her swung open, and a small sword swung out from it, barely missing her.

If it hadn't been for her hunter and vampire instincts, her head might have been very well lopped off.

"Damn. the shadowed figure cursed, only their hair illuminated...

...by the faint light of a cracked halo.

She was silent as she looked her assailant from head to toe, and quickly making a plan.

She didn't know much about the Fallen, as it hadn't come up with Liz so far.

But she was reasonably certain that if she could grab that halo... it'd help her out. She didn't know how, would it boost her? Debuff her assailant? Kill them? There was no way for her to know, but she knew she had to try.

So, she grabbed the blade, not caring that it would hurt, and twisted it, trying to wrench it from his grip. He didn't release that time, so she twisted harder, and the resulting snap she heard, along with the cry of shock and pain, caused them to release the sword, which she quickly flipped back toward her and aimed at the one who attacked her.

"You have no idea who you're dealing with." She stated as she went to try and hook the halo with the sword.

The person's wrist was clearly twisted, but they had enough wherewithal to notice she was trying to hook their halo.

They may have been a Fallen. They have have hated Heaven, Hell, and everything in between. But they knew that their halo was the key to their existence as a Fallen. And they did NOT want to become a demon. Not yet.

As such, they grabbed it with their good hand, and literally barreled into Sydney, skewering themselves with the sword, knocking her down to the floor, and rolling away from her in pain.

"Shut it." they hissed.

"You're nothing before what we are."

When she hit the floor, she found herself quite thrilled to know that she didn't need to breathe. However, it was still very much unpleasant. She let out a groan upon the impact, before shoving the now impaled Fallen off of her, causing them to roll away a bit.

"Oh spare me your bullshit." She stated before just getting to her feet and slamming a hand against the wall she was by. A portal opened beneath the head of the Fallen.

And she was reaching through for their halo.

The Fallen didn't seem to react to her using the portal, but just as she was about to grab it, yet another crashed through a nearby window, tackling her and wrenching her arm from within the portal.

The two of them tumbled across the floor, ending with Sydney on her back, and the Fallen on top of her, brandishing a dagger.

"Michael says you are a cockroach among worms." he told her.

"So we will rid him of the pests that ire him." he reasoned.

She was silent as she was tackled to the side, her arm and shoulder wrenched in a very not pleasant way. She didn't let out a cry of pain, however.

"Oh come off it." She then said before shoving the Fallen off of her quickly, and switching their positions. She was atop him, and without even considering how it could be problematic for her, she just reached up and grabbed the halo.

"You will do nothing of the sort, anyway." She snarled before pulling hard as he reached up for her hand. She did manage to get the halo off of his head, holding it herself.

She had no idea what to do it with now, but she also realised she didn't really have the time to debate that. Quicklly, she made her way over to the one from before, ready to remove that halo as well.

Once the halo had been removed, the Fallen seemed to just... crumple. He laid on the floor, weak as a slug.

"N-no..." he stammered.

As he said that, Sydney felt the halo in her hand... and it throbbed with strength and power. So much so, that when she grabbed onto the other one, she felt IMMENSE power starting to flow through her.

However, that was quickly dwarfed by a massively powerful presence that she immediately became aware of... seconds before she heard slow clapping.

"Bravo. Bravo." a male voice said, from seemingly all around.

"You've taken care of the trash."

She was silent as she got to her feet, a halo around each wrist for ease.

"The fuck?" She asked as she looked him from head to toe.

"Who are you and what the hell do YOU want?" She asked, realising that he didn't look quite as dark and shadowed as these two had.
