The Dhole is a canid native to Central, South, East, and Southeast Asia. It's also known as the Asian Wild Dog. The name "Dhole" is in theory dirived from the Kannada word for 'wolf', tōḷa. The H is silent and is pronounced like Dole, the banana company. Also note that Kannada has nothing to do with Canada...or bananas. The Dhole is also endangered. Their numbers might be as low as 2,500. This is due to over hunting, habitat loss and shortage of prey.
