@sunny: Yeah - dogs and rain don't seem to go together too well, do they? As it turns out, it wasn't raining out front, but I'm pretty sure it was raining in the back yard XD
Yeah, this in-between creative mood is a weird thing to deal with. I'm making some progress, but I don't seem to have the level of patience with it that I really should have for what I'm doing, so I think I'm going to just do what I can today -like a rough draft- and try to refine it to the next level tomorrow or the following day.
The no stitch braid is more like a pure braid, but as you braid, you take one of the 'lines' and weave it back through what you've already braided, connecting it all together as you go along (link). It sounds interesting and a lot faster than going back through after everything has been braided and sewing it together, but I'm concerned that the finished product will end up rather bumpy and uneven, which is why I want to do a test before I start working on my next real project.

Oh! Thanks for the link, photos help me visualise! I've done a project like that before, and you're right, it does tend towards getting lumpy etc. No advice though as I am barely even a beginner. Good luck!

Yeah I made a little mat/rug in that style a few years ago. I'm not a particularly crafty person but it was a nice relaxing thing to do.

Yes, I've started doing braided rugs during my "downtime" - watching tv, or when I'm just too tired or unfocused to do something else. I've made two rugs now - a tiny little thing and a larger one (about 4 feet x 3 feet) and am getting ready to start another one. I like having something to do with my hands when I'm otherwise sitting still. I thought I'd try that inter-weaving/braiding style, because the sewing part can get tedious, but now I'm not so sure...

- @Wildfire: It is yummy isn’t it? One of my favourite types of salad. I got the ingredients for it last week so I was kinda sceptical about whether they’d still be good, but they were fine! Except for the lemon that fought back lol.

Thanks - the rug took a really long time to make - a surprising number of hours went in to it. I don't have a finished photo of it, or I'd share, but it's a lovely teal and gray with some purple and white combination... maybe I have a photo of it mid-process...
