Forums Serious Talk i didn't think highrise could piss me off any more but

Donator — he/him Posted 3 years ago ( 2021/10/12 23:34:40 )

it has succeeded, congrats to them i guess
so, same game as in this post except i'm not hiding the name anymore, since i'm not promoting the game and i never, EVER could.

so, tldr for the post above, the game has a terrible economy, takes away features the playerbase likes, gives out 15 of an item when there are over 1 million players which makes the economy even worse (aka 25k gold = $100 but some items are over 1 MILLION GOLD), and refuses to fix the style challenge event despite it being broken.

anyway, so they started doing an AMA, where we ask the admins and management questions.
last week was good, i had hope, but this week it was one of the main guys turns, and basically: they're not gonna try fixing the economy.
they're not going to up the tier 1 rewards to like, more than 15, they're not gonna regulate the prices of items, they're probably not gonna fix style challenge.

i'm done with that bullshit game and it's bullshit management.
never play highrise, the management is even greedier than when gaia got the new management, except highrise hasn't changed management at all.
all hope i had for them fixing the broken thing's has gone.

also they STILL haven't fixed the pawn shop issue, it's been like 2 months since it broke.

anyway i just wanted to rant, carry on.

@squishy sloth: I tried that game and I didn't like it .. reminds me of an avatar Facebook and on the same day I joined there was teenagers talking shit all over their newsfeed about each other accusing some young girl of being a "perv" and thats the politer word that I'm using .. so much drama I was just like eff that and I just uninstalled the app

Should they keep it on display...

Highrise is such a horrid game--- I played it for a few months and I rarely was able to get items because of how bad the economy has gotten. It's seriously just a money grinder at this point, and only truly enjoyable for bored rich people.

Or redecorate?

@Miss Sandman: JAHSHDJH they made the heads smaller, i miss the big heads ):
i agree though i preferred the avatars from highrise 1, the colours were flatter and it had a charm to it

@KDA Drew: oh fun fact about that, they recently disqualified a grab design for copying monster high, but get this, they did a sailor moon grab TWICE
i have no idea what their logic is at all it's so dumb
also the website is just for the item catalogue, the actual game is a mobile game which probably makes it worse because there are 13 year olds playing it akshjd
also voltra is better anyway and i can actually afford animal ears here B)

@LilMissKushy: oh god yeah there's always been a ton of drama on there, thankfully most of the people i followed had quit by the time i came back so i only saw people making very vague posts about drama but it was still exhausting rip

@MaxIsConfused: yeah in the ama i literally saw someone say 'if you can't afford it just don't buy it' which,, isn't the right attitude for a mobile game targeted at teens?????
it's becoming gaia but without the change in management and it's kind of sad

@squishy sloth: Such a bittersweet thing... I've been on HR since I was a teen, collecting items and making friends..
But, like you, I've had to leave MULTIPLE times due to extreme toxicity. This is the longest I've "taken a break" from the game, but now I'm not so sure I'll ever return.
I've just... outgrown the childish nature of the playstyle. And I think the userbase has outgrown the number of users that game should have in order to operate properly.
Such a shame, but I feel your pain. (omg did that rhyme? almost? just call me Dr. Suess)

@milkshake: yeah they changed a tooon of things so when i came back to it i was confused too ):
also the items are really cute and i'm gonna miss a lot of things i have but it's just not worth playing anymore rip

@Miss Sandman: yeah i can understand that!! i like the whole big head look personally, and the older style of highrise was better imo because certain items were made to fit that style and now they just look off ):
the smaller heads are neat because certain hair and hats fit better but i was very used to the bigger heads ajsnhdj

@icedchai: yeah it's sad to leave but at this point i'm just so over it akjhjd
it's gotten so toxic and no one socialises anymore because they're focused on trying to sell and it's just not worth it,,
also i filled up two whole usergrabs and half of a third one full of rares, including spares, a single usergrab can hold 1000 items,, i've been trying to sell half of those dupes for literal years man,, i have given up akjshjdjb

(also you are the next dr suess now hell yeah aksjbhd)

honestly i don't trust it so even tho i'd LOVE to make money from selling my stuff, you need $100 before you cash out and idk if anythings even worth enough to make that yet so i would never be able to get it rip

Like they're not even trying to hide it anymore. They even disabled comments on their post about the pocket coins.

Ooooh gosh okay! So! I had to look up the rules on necroing because I didn't think I'd find anyone who frequented Highrise here but have I got some rants to probably make you even more p/o'd.

I was verified. My name on HR was Liberate (just putting that out there so that I can impress upon you that yes, I was verified!) This meant that I had an undue amount of stress put upon me by both the staff of highrise (ALL verified users were approached for conversations with Anton, the CEO(?)) and by regular users of the game - despite me being a user JUST LIKE THEM. They do this on purpose - verified users were the ones who caught all the flak for THEIR mistakes because we had a direct line of communication. We were essentially forced into the role of user ambassadors.

They don't know how to manage or moderate their game, so instead of hiring moderators (which, by the way, were paid with 2000 gold a month if I'm remembering correctly) they remove social interactions. They refuse to hire moderators for the crummiest reason ever, btw: ONE moderator took advantage of their position. So instead of hiring better mods they just decided to let their mods get swamped and quit. They steal designs and act innocent when they're called out on it, and it's happened to me and MULTIPLE other creators and probably even continues to happen to this day. They hide behind identities. They suck the soul out of their customer-facing team and push both them and the verified users to take the fall for their actions. I remember when they got a new customer service rep and it was a HUGE thing, initially he was AMAZING and then slowly people began to toss vitriol and he just... stopped caring and became the villain they made him out to be.

People on the game place such a high value on items that when I decided to quit and not give any of my items away or sell them, and decided to trash them, my entire friend group left me.
I did this back during the easter event of 2019(I think? The one with the really cute rank 50 reward that I can't even remember anymore (buns I think?)). I was having such a hard time keeping rank, I ran out of gold to keep rank, and had a minor epiphany that I was wasting my life away. So I took away most incentive to stay on the game and trashed most of my items. I told my crew what I was doing and instead of understanding I had everyone in my DMs literally yelling at me, at how I was being selfish, to stop throwing a tantrum, etc etc. I even calmly explained that I had realized there was no point in doing this to myself. (they weren't even mad about the economy, btw! Most of the items I had weren't worth more than 10k and there were hundreds if not thousands of them, and they all made no mention of that anyways, and the one item I did delete that had major worth and impact in the community I reached out to customer support to have reinstated and pushed it back into the economy myself.)

When I quit I did come back and do some events with what little gold I had left by selling whatever I had left to sell, and slowly fizzled out of the game and stopped posting altogether.

The community is toxic and constantly searching for the latest gossip, tea, drama. They take vulnerable moments and make memes out of them, they act like humans aren't infallible. They search for ways to twist words to make SOMEONE out to be the bad guy. It's honestly disgusting. I don't even blame them though - it's what would happen if social media was close knit - it's like suburbia.

The economy is in shambles, the company is a wreck, they don't know how to even run a game community, and all they do is push out more gachas and act like they're unique when other apps do what they do and they do it BETTER.

@vioxeri: Damn. That's absolutely insane. Literally blows my mind that it's that bad behind the scenes.
Actually, I'm not that surprised, but still. There's no way a mobile game should be this corrupted.

But that's honestly such a badass move, to just *poof* all your items. Mad respect.

Did you hear they're also trying to take after Facebook's new 'metaverse' ? They don't want to be just another social networking app.
It's honestly scary. I thought the game was supposed to be about silly little avatars with silly little outfits making silly little emotes at
each other. The whole "news feed" full of selfies and NFT/pocket coins deal is.... well, it just seems so out of place on an avatar app
meant for young people.

Can't tell if the staff/CEO is just dumb or really greedy.
Feel like I need to join a Highrise Deserter Support Group, lol.

@icedchai: That's what it was *supposed* to be. It went downhill really fast.

They claim they removed the explore page because of toxicity but when they removed the explore page it was during a scandal that THEY were the center of and people kept criticising them and those posts kept being pushed to the front of the explore feed. But once they removed the explore feed, that's when it went WAY downhill, and they only removed it to avoid moderating it. There were times where literal pictures of minors engaging in... activities... were left up there for entire WEEKENDS and no one did anything about them because they were all offline. Including customer support. Or pictures of genitals, gore, violence etc. so instead of moderating it they removed it to avoid dealing with that.

Once they did that, however, social interaction slowly trickled to a halt. People who'd get 50-100 likes on their posts were suddenly getting maybe 5-10, while those who monopolized the explore feed prior to it's removal and had 100's of thousands of followers remained able to generate income through their art because they were still being pushed to the top of hashtags, but now only by their followers which meant new people who didn't know how the hashtags worked weren't seeing their posts. People would only go into rooms now to advertise their sales since, well, explore was taken down so there was no way to BOOST their stuff.

I'm more shocked about the NFT/PocketCoins thing like... 1. NFTs are extremely bad for the environment and 2. This is an app filled to the BRIM with children. I know they made the app 17+ but they did NOTHING to monitor whether or not children are on the app. But like... children aren't going to invest in NFTs...

@vioxeri: Omg for real. Like, children don't even have the money to pay for gold, let alone NFTs....
I understand that they changed the age to 17+, but any idiot with eyes can see it's a game for children.
Sure, adults can play games for children, I do all the time. But don't take a game that was designed for kids and just slap a new age limit on it without enforcing it or anything. It's such a sh*t show.

@icedchai: LMAO YEAH i noticed that they disabled the comments on their AMA posts too because they KNOW they'd get people asking them what they're gonna do about their items costing like 5mil
they're also talking about doing NFT's so that's another reason to dip akshjdj

@vioxeri: holy FUCK they need to sort themselves out if they're gonna run a gacha game
like, i knew it was bad but jesus christ
also i'm pretty sure i saw you around on there ajsghdjhgjf

it's honestly insane to me how anyone can be okay with the state that the games in, because even before i decided to quit for good i saw people saying shit like 'oh if you don't like the prices just don't play!!' as if they weren't charging like 3 million gold for a recolour of a rifle... insane, absolutely insane
and the fact that the people in charge won't even do anything to regulate the economy and they expect pocket coins and NFT's to help at all??? they don't know what they're doing i swear

i think i had gone on hiatus around the time the thing with the newsfeed and mod drama happened so i missed all that but it doesn't surprise me at all considering how they refuse to do anything that would actually benefit the game and, you know, hire moderators
