@Spuddy: It's completely fine to do it here. So what's the up?

@Whim:

Alright, so for sure we need an example for the works, but I want the example to be a sample product, rather than 'it will be this style'. For the premade limiteds, that's basically fan dolls. It could be Voltra NPCs, or book/comic/show/movie characters, etc. What do you think we should start with?

@Spuddy: Hmm..A voltra npc would be dope! Which one did you have in mind?

@Whim:

I have to say I spend the most time in Vyctor's shop, so maybe him? Although, it does occur to me that at some point I'm going to have to get a handle on the Voltra color palette as early as possible. Do they share that anywhere?

@Spuddy: Ooh Vyc would be a nice choice!

They have a color guide if that's what you meant. It even shows the items that contain that color, which is cool if you like to color code.

@Whim:

That is certainly more helpful than guessing. I can work with this. Thank you!

@Whim:

But what I mean is a way to actually getting the gradients automatically without having to guess where the color stops go.

@Spuddy: You're welcome and I know what you mean..I just wish there was an easier way to do that as well.

@Whim:

If I find a helpful way, would you want me to share it with you? I don't know if you care about the technical stuff.

@Spuddy: Sure thing, i'd love to know :)

Knowing me, I'd go into photoshop and use the eyedropper tool or use a color palette generator.

@Whim:

Oh, if you have photoshop, you can just extract the gradient. I don't have photoshop, though. I prefer clip studio.

But then I keep running into niche problems like this lol

@Spuddy: I can try, what's the object/image your trying to get your palette from?

Awesome!! I know exactly what to test it on to see if it matches up.

@Whim:

Hm, but a gradient requires at least two colors, yes? What do I do with these? Lighter and less saturated for the highlights, and darker and more saturated for the shadows....? What about the hue changes?

@Whim:

I hope that didn't come off too harshly! I meant it as an actual question, as I'm an entirely self-and-tutorial-taught artist. Is there an expected standard way to get a gradient from one color?

@Spuddy:

Yes, some gradients on here contain 2 or 3 colors.

For instance, here's a hair that does have 3 colors:

And those are just the color hex codes for you to obtain the colors of your liking. For example, bubblegum and sea would look like this:

I used a gradient tool in photoshop to make that. I'm sure other programs can do as well :)

Maybe play around with a dodge / burn tool would can help you with hues. I'm not too sure about that, to be honest with you.
