Forums Games Voltie Streamers?

Donator — she/her Posted 1 year ago ( 2023/08/21 14:20:06 )

The intent of this thread is to hopefully get some advice/ insight from any streamers out there. I've been wanting to stream for years and even have dreams about it, but have been a bit nervous to start. I would like a bit more insight/ perspective from other streamers before I give it a go. Ultimately, I know the only way to start is to just start, so hopefully I'll have something started before the year ends or at the start of next year.

So, are there any Volties who stream?
- What platform do you stream on?
- What got you into streaming or made you want to stream?
- What content do you stream?
- What do you like or dislike about it?
- What have you gotten out of it? (i.e. community, fulfillment, friendships, etc)
- Any suggestions for someone who's shy? =3=;
- Anything else you could add?

Personally, I would like to make a platform where I could meet and hang out with people with similar interests. I would love to stream myself doing art, playing leisure-like games, and overall feel connected with like-minded people. I guess I crave a sense of community.

Do what I do. Hold tight and pretend it's a plan!

I've never understood the draw of streaming.

Nothing against you!

I just .. would rather play the game than watch somebody else play it, I guess?

Now, if you were to make short videos showing how you got past a difficult area, of solved a puzzle in the game, etc . . . that I woud be interested in watching! Even with added commentary or visuals thrown in to make your videos unique.

Good luck in your endeavor, though!

We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?

Hey hey!! I've also had a passive interest in streaming for a while, but only recently got enough equipment to rudimentarily do it. I've only streamed a few times, and honestly I don't feel any need or drive to make it a THING per se. For me honestly it can help me stay on track and force me to keep playing a game even when I want to give up, or prevents me from getting distracted which happens often haha.

Thus far I've just streamed a few random games, particularly one called Ashen that is a bit more challenging for me so it helped to have even just the idea of an audience there (most of the time there's maybe just one of my friends, or one random person, or... no one haha, but I honestly don't mind). Someday I'd like to stream music-making if possible, especially if I get better at DAW audio production.
I have had some other friends who have streamed for reals, also, and it's been cool for them it seems!

In terms of shyness, I can say that what helps me is not feeling pressure to show my face at all! I only stream my gameplay and my microphone, and that makes me feel comfortable; my friend who streams the most also does this, and it works out for her so everyone can totally work within their niche and comfort zone.

@Ark: I think it can certainly be a cool outlet and if you put yourself out there, folks will find ya! I know the challenging part can sometimes be building that audience, but lots of folks are willing to support each other and I'm sure you might have some Voltie pals who would offer their support too, all that jazz. Best of luck if you decide to start, regardless!!

Hey @Ark: As a person who does watch people stream, I like more the ASMR of either drawing, cooking, packing for their business, pen paling, or weird beauty medical procures

I'm not a gamer but I love watching people play video games, especially games I know I probably won't play. For the leisure games I'm interested in, I imagine they'd be fun to play while chatting with people. As an artist, I also like watching other artists to get ideas, tips, and inspiration. I hope that being amongst other artists could help me improve my work overtime.

@toe: Thank you for your response! Streaming to stay focused and follow through with a game sounds like good motivation, and I bet streaming while making music could be a lot of fun. :3 What kind of music would you like to produce? A streamer friend of mine suggested going the route of not showing my face, but I'm more insecure about my voice if anything. @-@ I'm 29 but my voice sounds very young. I fear it won't be received well (maybe I'm overthinking or just traumatized from past experiences).

@Qiqi Agatha: Packing for business and pen paling are things I haven't thought of watching, but now my interest is piqued. As for the weird beauty medical procedures, what type of procedures do you like to watch? Is it like plastic surgery, injections, or pimple popping? :'O

@stinky: Ooooh, I would love to get info on VTubing, too. owo Time to dive into some research. xD

@Delightfully: I know, the thought of talking to people is a bit intimidating when I think about it. @~@ That's one reason why I've been hesitant on starting. Would it be easier if some friends joined your streams so that you'd feel more comfortable? Maybe having them there could take the pressure off of you if you fear that you're not entertaining enough? :O

@Ark: This YouTuber use to do lots of pen paling until the pandemic came through, now she does mostly vlogging and semi-collage journaling. She also just opened her own Stationery Shop this year. I've been watching her since 2018. This YouTuber has been doing the packing streaming recently.

Yes to watching plastic surgery, other surgeries, and some pimple popping videos, if it's not too much for me to handle

I stream from time to time on twitch (for now), although its very sporadically as i havent gotten a schedule set up so my community is rly small lol not that many watch anyways, but its to be fair when i dont have a set schedule.

I stream mostly games. Ive been doing more horror games, but now im doing some survival games and done some other story games. Honestly depends on what i feel like doing at that time. I considered doing some art streams but i havent drawn anything in a while so im rusty and i dont really like my art that much anymore as i did when i was younger.

If you're shy and dont want to set up a whole vtuber set up, or use cam (which you really dont have to do), I would recommend looking up "png vtuber". Its like a image that reacts to you when you speak and it can be really cute. You can make it really simple or more complicated. Its really fun to change between different models xD

I think its definitely worth a try if youre interested and at the beginning dont take it too seriously. I dont recommend getting too focused on numbers and such. I started streaming since a few friends and I wanted me to stream scary games and such, so i dont focus on earning money or anything, i just do it for fun and if others find it funny too then im just happy about that :) But again, it really depends what you want out from it.

A really good tip I heard one time and one i use when its hard to come up with something to talk about is just to say everything on the screen out loud. Ex if youre playing a game, read the notes or other text out loud., and describe what youre doing. Same with say art, be like, hmm would this color look good, idk if this looks right etc. It helps a lot to make your stream inviting imo. It gets way easier when you got a chat to respond to.

@Ark: I can totally understand being uncomfortable with sharing one's voice too! In all honesty I likely avoided streaming in the past as well because of vocal dysphoria, which now that I have learned to understand and mitigate in certain ways, I feel lots better about. There's lots of stigma about what certain voices mean about a person, and it sucks; at the end of the day, those folks who presume to know something about you or your age based on just your voice, would be missing the opportunity to actually know You!

As for musical production, I'd love to get more skilled with making electronic music kind of in the electronica or IDM realm. I also make ambient/drone type music which is very fun but overall I love to experiment any way I can. I've been hugely inspired by Rei Harakami and Casino Versus Japan of late, but also like, Cocteau Twins and Sonic Youth and such haha.
What types of art do you create, also? It's so awesome to have lots of folks sharing their work and processes, so much inspiration out there!!

I bet your streams are so fun to watch, I love watching horror games and survival horror games! What survival horror games do you like to play? :3

Also, thank you for the recommendation! I'm gonna take note of this and look more into it. ^^

@qiqi agatha: Thank you for the links! :)

@toe: After skimming through some songs by the artists you're inspired by, it'd be interesting to hear an experimentation of all of their sounds together. :3 I mostly just doodle characters and comics, and try to make illustrations when I can. I haven't had much time to do any personal art lately.

Hello fellow streamer here! I stream art, and I do not use a mic or cam. You do not need to use either but, mics help talk and communicate with your audience.

I was streaming on YouTube but I use twitch currently. What made my stream was growing a community. However the first time streams you may not gain anything from it for a while.

I use streaming to get artwork done. show my process in art, etc. Currently I am affiliate. Though the thing I dislike about streaming is consistency matters. As well as having a schedule. but its because my life is chaotic right now.

I've gotten a lot of fulfillment from it. as well as commissions too.

my most helpful advice is viewers will be drawn if they like your content. don't worry about view or follower count. just have fun.

@Ark: I appreciate your checking some stuff out there, that's really cool! I'd definitely like to try using that idea to guide a music-making session, maybe I'll experiment with trying to make components of a track that are each specifically inspired by one of those artists. Whether I could actually execute it is another story haha!
Doodling rocks my socks; making comics has always sounded challenging but so cool to me! Hopefully you'll have more time to dedicate to that soon; are there particular projects you've had ongoing, or hope to start someday?
