The year is 2250, mankind has gone through a cultural shift due a bizarre virus sweeping through all. All though harmless on mortality basis, the virus has had an unexpected result; genetic mutations resulting in evolution. Now, almost the entirety of the world possess what have been deemed as "Factors"; powers born from a person's genetic mutation. Along with this, a highly successful business known as Eden has emerged and has essentially taken over the world, being the leading tech and pharmaceutical provider to the world as well as having influential control over the world governments. Many believe that Eden plans to extort the people for personal gain and as such many rebel factions have been formed to confront them. This story follows one in specific.....
The laboratory had been thrown in to chaos. The main power had been cut causing the rooms and halls to be filled with a red emergency light. This lab was owned by Eden and on the front was portrayed as pharmaceutical research lab but there had been whispers that it was in fact a lab designated to extract the factors from possibly powerful candidates; about 400 people have been estimated to have been killed in the name of science. In order to shut down the lab, a small group of rebels have infiltrated the facility.
"So is she the one...."Asked a scientist as he examined a young woman who had been strapped down to a table, naked and loosely sedated.
"According to the president, she's very special..."Replied another scientist who was checking the young woman's charts.
"Look at this, her factor levels are abnormally high, almost as though..."He continued to state before he was caught off.
:She's an omega factor...very interesting."The first scientist commented as he stroked his chin.
"Continue running the tests, we need to find out the extent of her abilities."The first scientist ordered.
"Yes sir, and what should we do regarding the rumors?"The second scientist asked.
"What rumors?"The first replied.
"The ones about the possible rebels showing up here and shutting down the lab; there has already been multiple others in the same district that have been infiltrated and destroyed from the inside."The second explained.
"Don't think too much about it, we have hired security anyways..."The first replied with a sigh.
"I guess you're right..."The second agreed, not entirely assured.
She heard what it was that was said, barely, but she heard it. She didn't know what it was that she was supposed to make of it, but that was largely because of what it was that they had done with her, so far. She wasn't in the best state, and it wasn't surprising. She'd been there for awhile, after all.
She was trying to fully get to the point that she could do what it was that she was supposed to do. She had to get out of there, and she had been making plans for it, for awhile.
It was something that she knew she had to do. She would end up dead if she did.
Of course, she had no idea what it was that they meant about her being an omega. That was a surprise. She'd never thought she was anything too strong or worth mentioning. From what they were saying, though....
The hell are they going on about with that? Seriously. There's NO way that I am anything like that. she thought before pausing. One of the two... they hadn't sounded too convinced.
There was new security there, of course, even she knew that... but the one hadn't been convinced of the effectiveness there. That... was definitely something to keep in mind for the future, she was sure. Maybe it would make it that there was someone that she could get out of there.
Maybe.
The lights within the laboratory flickered slightly before fully blacking out. A few minutes afterwards, the entire building was hued in a red light due the emergency back-up generator. Aside from the idle chatter between the scientists wondering what caused the power to go out, it was unnervingly quiet. Then there was the sound of metal clanging against the wall as it flew off its hinges and slammed against the wall adjacent to it; killing a few scientists in the process. A figure wearing what looked like an obsidian suit similar to what the security and wore and a helmet with four glowing red eye slits. The scientists scrambled to either call in aid or attack the intruder but they were swiftly taken down. The figure then placed two fingers to his head and began to speak.
"I've made my way to the examination room, currently looking for the subject. He stated as he walked around, eventually coming to the young woman on the table.
"This must be her...."He stated as he checked her chart.
"Yep, no doubt; alright, hold still."He suggested as he tore the straps that was tying her down.
"Now I know you have a lot of questions but for now lets focus on getting you out of here."He suggested, holding a hand out to show that he was there to help.

She watched the entire event, stopping to get out of the bonds she was in for a few seconds. When she was addressed, she paused before nodding.
"Yeah.. all right." She said before accepting his hand and pulling herself to her feet.
"Lead the way." She then said, glancing behind her at the room she'd been stuck in.
"Because the sooner I'm out of this hell, the better."
"I second that statement."Agreed the armor man before stepping out of the room and checking both ways in the halls.
He then waved to the young woman to follow him. The emergency power was still on so the halls were filled with a red ominous hue. As they made their way through, the armored man stopped briefly before placing a finger against his helm. This allowed him to increase the distance in which he could hear, he heard the sounds of bones snapping as though something solid had smashed right into them. There could be to reasons for this, it was either his partner or something entirely else was lurking in these labs. For the time being he decided to forgoing down that path in the unlikelihood of a worse case scenario.
"Crap, let's hurry back the other way."He suggested as he turned around, only to be greeted with unpleasant sight.
What appeared him looked like hounds but with a more demonic appearance to them. He recognized these creatures, they were garms, a type of monster known as remnants. These monsters have been showing up all over more frequently ever since Eden was established. Some believe that they were truly monsters from hell while others believed that they were souls of the dead come back to life in a malefic, twisted form. Either way, they were too dangerous for normal people to handle.
"Damn it, I was hoping to not have to run into these things at a time like this..."The man groaned as he reached for the blade he carried on his back.
"I'm sorry miss, but I have some business to take care of."He added, drawing his blade and causing a surge of energy to fill the air as he did so.

She wasn't going to argue with him, but that didn't mean she was enthusiastic about going every which way. She could understand the idea of avoiding people for the moment, most definitely. She fully supported that idea too.
When she saw the creatures, she didn't say anything. While most people would likely let out a cry of some sort or something, she was silent save for a barely audible curse.
Of course, when he withdrew the blade, she just stared at him, wondering what the hell was special about it. Something was, it was obvious... But she didn't know the details (not that she could). She wanted to though. She was smart though. Don't ask questions at a time like this. Not when they could both die without it being too far out of the realm of possibility.
The garms began to position themselves for lunging attack, snarling with intensity as they did so. The man inhaled deeply before spacing his legs, with his left frontwards. He then brought his blade up to ear height with one hand and the his other free one up to nearly same height and positioned it similar to how he was now standing. The blade was then rotated so that it was facing upwards before the man began to grind it against the outside of the forearm of his free arm. Doing so seemed to draw energy into the blade itself and soon it become ignited in a brilliant flame. With a sudden and powerful exhale, the man swung his blade causing the garms to catch fire before their bodies eventually exploded in an eruption of fire. Finally, with a single swing, the man managed to extinguish the residual flames left from the garms.
"I suggest we push on through."The man suggested.
"Last thing we need is for more of those damned things to show up..."He added taking a step forward.

She was completely silent as she watched what was happening ahead ofher. The fact that he could take those creatures out without any difficulty, that was enough of a shock. The fact that he was able to draw magic out of him, that was a surprise and something that she wasn't sure about whether or not that she was really going to be able to believe that....
"Wow." She mouthed before shaking her head.
"And yeah. Let's go." She agreed before falling into step behind him, not once complaining about her current state of dress, or lack thereof.
The man picked up pace as he quickly moved down the hallways; drift around corners when need be. As he moved about, his eyes bound back and forth keeping a look out for any possible remnants hiding among the deep red light that bathed the hallways. Eventually, the two came around a corner where large mechanical guards patrolling the area.
"Sentries...."The man muttered while stepping back on his left foot.
The sentries became aware of the two's presence and began firing shots rapidly. The man then quickly swiped his blade against his leg before plunging it into ground causing a large wall of stone to rise in between them, blocking the sentries' gunfire. Once the two were safe, the man grabbed a hold of the young woman's hand and began sprinting down the hall in the opposite direction. Eventually their path came to dead end as the path was now barricaded by super heavy grade panels.
"Damn, we need another way out...."The man groaned before looking around for another way out, eventually finding a stairway.
"Come on, lets make our way to the roof."The man suggested.

She managed to keep up surprisingly well, at least he may have thought it was surprising. She was a small woman, but she was one that was in shape, that was the main thing overall.
She managed to keep up, somehow, even with all the twists and turns, before they reached the stairs. She was winded, seriously so, but nodded and started heading up the stairs with him, doing the best she could to avoid falling behind, despite the fact that her chest felt like it was burning. She may have been in shape, but they'd ran enough that it had definitely been more than a little bit of a task for her.
Once they finally managed to get up to the roof, she doubled over, her hands on her knees, and just heaved a few breaths.
"Ow." She muttered
The man reached the roof of the facility first and veered over the railing at the far end; beneath them were waves crashing against the bedrock that held the facility in place. As the young woman he was escorting finally caught up, he could hear her slight muttering as she collapsed onto her knees. He then approached her and knelt down to her level.
"Pardon the intrusion..."He stated, placing a hand on her chest around the vicinity of her lungs.
The man's shoulders began to glow as he inhaled and then with a quick, shallow exhale, the young woman could feel her lungs being filled with refreshing oxygen.
"That should help."The man stated.
"I could tell from your overexertion that your lungs weren't able to get enough oxygen and as such your heart was starting to beat erratically; that should alleviate it some."He added before pressing a button on the side of his helmet.
"Hey, change of plans....I had to run to the roof, mind setting the detonator since you're closer?"He asked an unknown entity on the other end.
"Hold up....so that was you as I initially thought...."The man groaned.
"Well whatever, just can you do as I asked?"The man asked once more.
"Thanks, verify with me once you've started the count down; I'll see you back at the base when possible."The man stated before ending his conversation.
"Well we got some time to kill, mind telling me as to why they had you set up here?"The man asked, turning to the young woman.

She was silent as he did all he did, marvelling at the fact that she wasn't as winded as she had been before. She appreciated it, a lot.
After he was done with the communication to the other person, she sighed lightly and looked to him.
"Why did they have me here? Beats the fuck out of me." She answered with a sigh.
"Seriously. I don't know. All I can do is manipulate plantlife and the like. Nothing to major. I've seen people who I think would be better subjects here, but they opted for me, for some reason." She added.
"Also, thanks, by the way. Getting out of here is going to be a breath of fresh air. Seriously. This place is hell."
"Honestly, getting you out of here benefits us both."The man stated as he stroked his chin in contemplation.
"Sounds like you have a form of geomancy; a rather common type of elemnacy."He stated.
"Which makes their desire to do research on you even more intriguing; must be because your factor is an omega level...."He added as he heard his common signal that the detonation sequence had begun.
"Well then, excuse me..."He stated as he picked the woman up and carried her in his arms before leaping over the side of the building.
As they fell, the man's shoulders began to glow and wings of solidified air formed allowing them to gently float down to the water below. Once his feet met water's surface, the man's abdomen began to glow allowing him to freeze the water beneath forming a path that they could use to get away from the facility. Eventually they found themselves in aqueduct that connected the city's sewers to the outside.
"Sorry for the abrupt escape there...and the horrible smell."The man stated as he began to make steps into the sewer.
"Just a little further and we'll be home free..."

She held fast to him as he jumped off the edge of the building, and watched the ice before sighing, not interested in putting her bare feet on that surface, as it formed.
"Yeah, no problem." She said after a few seconds.
"I'm not really bothered from scents, personally." She added after a couple ticks.
"It's just a thing, why get worked up about it? Plus, nature can smell pretty ripe too." She then said with a laugh.
"Where are you taking me, anyway?" She asked. One thing she wasn't going to deny, would be some shelter... and possibly some clothing. Sure, she didn't know whot his was, but anywhere was better than where she had just been, she was sure.
The man then pressed a number of buttons on his wrist in response to the young woman's question. A hologram projected from his wrist that displayed the entirety of the city's sewage system.
"First thing we need to do is head towards section thirteen; should be located around...here."He stated pointing to a location that was practically all the way across to the other side of the map from where they were.
"From there, we'll make our way through the above ground neighborhood until we reach a place called Jobless; its a type of freelance office of sorts and a base of operations for me and my associates."He further explained.
"Once there we'll devise a plan to find you a new residence and to keep you out of Eden's hands."

She was silent for a moment before nodding.
"All right then." She said simply.
"Quite a trek though...." She then muttered before sighing lightly.
"Also.... name's Tae." She then added after a few seconds.
"Just... so you have something to call me. It's short for Taerin."
"Glad to here your name isn't subject 10850..."The man chuckled, referring to the chart he had read earlier in the lab.
"The name's Reybern, everyone calls me Rey."The man stated, making strides forward.
There wasn't much more conversation between the two as they made their way through the foul smelling sewers to their destination. Rey climbed the ladder leading to the streets above and used geomancy to push the manhole cover over revealing the the pitch black sky of the city above them. Stepping out of the sewer, Rey then reached down and helped Taerin out by extending a hand. After they both were finally above ground, Rey once again placed his hand against his helmet to communicate with the person he had talked to him earlier; instantly jerking back in recoil.
"Whoa calm down Jojo, I didn't leave you behind intentionally...it just sort of happened that way."Rey tried to explained.
"Hey, hey....you survived the explosion right; so stop bitching."Rey stated with a sigh.
"We'll talk later, it's getting late and we both smell like the sewers...."Rey groaned before cutting communications.
"We don't have much further to go, lets get a move on."Rey told Taerin before pressing a button on his armor which seemed to remotely control a motorcycle to their location.

Tae nodded after Rey had said all he did.
"Sounds like someone's unhappy with you." She commented after a few seconds before pausing. "Something tells me that's a common occurrence though."
"Nice bike, by the way." She added after it had arrived and she was able to get a good look at it.
"This thing; Its just a disposable piece of junk." Rey replied as got on top and reved the engine.
"Now get on, we need to get moving quick before..." Rey was stating before stopping mid sentence to notice helicopters flying by with search lights beaming.
"They start searching..." Rey finished with a groan.

Tae was silent for a moment before climbing onto the bike behind him.
"Let's move then." She said simply, hoestly relieved that they didn't have to walk the entire distance. She'd seen the distance, and she was fit... yes, but she wasn't interested in going that far on foot.
