i'm neku. this is the first avatar site i've joined since tinierme shut down, so this is kind of exciting. i played gaia on and off since 06 but it's very different there now from what i remember lol.

let's see, i like mmorpgs, learning languages, and roleplaying (although i havent done so in a long time orz). irl i work as a video game designer and teach dance classes on the side. i'm not really good at being active on forums like this but i will try my best!

thanks for stopping by. i hope to make a lot of new friends here!

What Saeyra said! I dabbled in some 72 hour gamedev competitions when I was a teenager, it was a grand 'ol time.

thank you all for the welcomes! it's been fun here so far. looking forward to getting more involved with the community!

@okios: i do! last week i just wrapped up teaching dope by bts. i don't listen to kpop much outside of work so i'm not very up to date on new releases, but i like teaching kpop choreographies, they're a lot of fun! do you like kpop? :)

@Saeyra: / @Glume: i work on AAA games! my studio is participating at E3 next week. my first time going so i'm a little nervous lol. ahh gamedev competitions sound really cool! kind of like game jams i'm guessing? what kind of games did you work on?

@neku: Well pixels are my specialty, so always 2D. One was about a sandwich thief and the magical dude from whom it was stolen, one was about a chef (you!) who murdered the ingredients for his meals, and I'm pretty sure the third one was scrapped because the programmer and the sound guys bailed, and they were the only other members of the team so....
Good times!
I loved the pressure, and was so thrilled to see my stuff get put to practical use for the first time. I think the murderous chef game got 2nd or 3rd place..

@Glume: that's so awesome! they sound like they would be fun to play. and only having 72 hours to work on it sounds intense ;v; how fleshed out were they in the end? like a couple levels or so? makes me wish i'd participated in one!

@neku: RAD. that's the song that got me hooked onto bts, and i love the footwork in the choreo. i love kpop. everything is eyecandy tbh. :vanora_heart: music is catchy af too

@okios: that's cool! you are a fan of bts? i taught many choreographies of bts to my classes, but i think my favorite one is "not today." ^^ are there any other groups you like? and you're right, kpop is very catchy, haha. recently my coworker showed me "peek a boo" by red velvet and it's stuck in my head now.

@neku: The ones that actually got finished were full multi-level games. The murderous chef one I think had about five distinct levels, each split into three parts. The other one was a bit more loosey goosey and used the same art elements over a few times. I just tried to google search any signs of either of those games, and I fear they are beyond my reach if they even still exist at all. What kinds of games do you work on? What do you contribute?

@Glume: wow you were able to get a lot done! ah i see, that's a shame. i think it would have been cool to see them on steam direct or something. but i guess the experience is what counts right?
my past few projects have been sci-fi/fantasy rpgs, but the current one i'm part of is a western-themed action/adventure. i do 2d environment concepts, later made into levels by 3d department (after many, many revisions). sometimes i help out with cutscene storyboards too ^^

@neku: Sadly it was long before the days of steam greenlighting games.
I'm high-key jealous of your being a concept artist. If I could have my dream job, it would be that or makeup effects because I can make a mean monster with just store bought makeup and some toilet paper. How'd you get into that line of work? Got fancy school learnings or did you find a way in self-taught?

@Totalanimefan: thanks! yeah, i've been enjoying it here so far. everyone's so friendly ^^ your post style is really cute btw!

@Glume: there's a big market for sfx makeup in the film/video industry if you'd be interested in that. i'm always amazed whenever i see it in movies, like in the terminator or x-men. where did you learn to do it? :) sounds like a super cool thing to have as a hobby especially if the materials are so accessible. i went to an art college, so yeah a bit fancy X'D after graduation i kept in contact with the professors i really liked and one of them referred me to a friend of theirs, who is an art director at the game studio i'm at now. lucked out there i guess haha

@neku: No luck about it. Art isn't a talent or a gift, its lots and lots of hard work. You earned that :p
I taught myself makeup through years of being a creepy-goth-teen. My husbands cousin got to study under TOM SAVINI. I'm so insanely jealous... but neither of us have jobs in the industry so....

@Glume: haha! that's legit. i wish i could do makeup. oh, tom savini from the zombie movies right? dawn/day of the dead? (trying not to be a cop-out and just look him up lol) that's so cool. i remember there was some kind of head explosion scene in one of them that haunted me for yearrrssss. ah yeah, the art industry is very competitive. film, graphic design, games, etc. :( networking is a big help. i hope you can get your dream job someday!

@Saeyra: i'm with rockstar. our parent company is an exhibitor, so i'll be helping out at their booth. my school was a bit small so i'm afraid saying it here might lead to some identifying information, but it's a fairly well-known one in nyc. ^^ did you go to an art college too?
