It's only really used in period things, it's a super duper old phrase.
Okay I started going through all that stuff, and very little of it needs 'throwing away'. None of it as badly stained as my mom think it is. Most of it just needs one wash and it's good to go.
I'm doing pretty good.

@Unicorn: My mom wanted me to go through her old clothes and throw away things she hasn't worn or are super stained and can't be salvaged. She figures that I'd be more efficient since I have no emotional attachment to the clothes. I'm more likely to be like 'trash'. But honestly most of the stuff just needs a trip to the washing machine and they'd be fine. So I need her to be with me as I go through them.

I am reminded of when I was kid, how my mom would throw out my toys behind my back. I'd never be consulted in the least and of course, it was usually my favorites.
