Because some of Vreg's characteristics kind of point to possible seriousness/bad things happening to him when he was younger. Plus, Eugene is overly protective of him and that also could imply somethings also... Like how Eugene doesn't like when people touch Vreg.
Sorry, I took psychology classes in high school. <_< And the Black Out event showed how protective Eugene was of Vreg. (He didn't let me pat Vreg on the head either.)
Anyways, what's important is Vreg is a happy, optimistic boy despite what may or might not have happened to him in his past.

No need to be sorry about it as you are probably right about it. But maybe Eugene actually loves Verg and is protective of him because he doesn’t want Verg to fall for anyone else?
Hm, maybe. Some animals do get over protective of their owners when they feel someone is intruding into their lives.
But I don't think Eugene is Vreg's pet... he's more like Vreg's papa rat. He could not want Vregory to leave the nest quite yet.

@Faust Sheep: hmmm right! My animals always get over protective of me when new strange people come into my life. I agree with you though that Eugene is more like Verg’s papa rat then anything almost like Eugene had raised verg up from a pup lol
