I don't think I can ever heal,
Ever replace that hole your death tore in me.

Reveka paused as she heard what she did before looking over.

"Eh?" She wondered before seeing the figure at the tree. She hopped off of the rock she was on and made her way across. As she neared, it seemed he hadn't actually noticed her until she was standing about two feet ahead of him.

... damn. he smells good. She thought.

"you ok?" She asked after a few seconds.

The boy, who appeared to be no older than 12, 13 at the oldest, jumped a little when Reveka said what she did, asked her question.

"Ah!" he exclaimed, looking at her.

"No!" he said.

"No! I have to... have to run...!" he said further, staggering to get to his feet again.

"She... she... no... no, please..." he begged, seeming to be delirious at the moment.

He then collapsed to his knees again, tears streaming down his cheeks.

Reveka just lowered herself to his level, even though there was very little height difference between them. If anything, he was an inch or two taller than she was.

"Hey, relax." She said.

"There's no one here but us." She then added after a moment, not reaching out to touch him in case he reacted badly.

"What's going on? Are you being chased?"

He just nodded quickly.

"Y-yes. No. M-maybe. I d-don't know." he admitted.

"Mother... mother almost got me." he said.

"She... she was... she trapped me..." he went on.

"...." he was then silent, before a name escaped his lips.

"R-Rowena... Fyrane..."

Reveka was silent for a moment.

"Come with me." She said as she stood up.

"I'll feed you, and give you somewhere to rest." She added before pausing.

"And I will know if anyone is coming that can do anything of the sort." She added with a light sigh.

"All right?"

"............" again, the boy was silent.

"Okay." he then said.

"....okay." he repeated, more quietly this time.

He then stood up again, though he looked ready to collapse again.

"....tired..." he mumbled.

"...hurt..." he said further, and she could tell he'd been having a rough go of it.

His clothes were torn and dirty, and he was covered with scrapes and cuts. The bags under his eyes proved that he hadn't been getting much sleep, either.

Reveka sighed lightly before nodding. She was too small to carry him, and she knew that, but that didn't mean that they couldn't make their way back.

"Come on then." She said before leading him back to her cabin. Once there, she sat him down on the small chair she had and sighed.

"I'm going to grab some plants and treat all the cuts and whatnot you have, ok?:" She asked.

".........okay." the boy replied.

At this point, it seemed like he'd finally let his guard down some... or maybe he'd resigned himself to any fate he thought he had. Or maybe the exhaustion had finally caught up to him.

Regardless, he wasn't fighting anymore, and didn't seem to be visibly panicking.

"Do what you have to." he said.

"I'll... I'll be here."

Reveka nodded.

"I'll be back in a couple minutes." She said before vanishing through a door. It was only a couple of minutes before she did return, a small box with some plants in her hands.

"Hey." She said as she approached and got on her knees ahead of him, "This might stinng. Some of these plants are really not nice." She warned.

After he'd allowed her access him to treat the wounds, she started to dress the cuts and stings, starting with the worst she could find.

Even though the plants she was using were a bit rough, and they stung, she saw that he barely reacted. He hardly even winced. The worse he did was close his eyes a little when the harsher plants were used.

Beyond that, he kept still.

He stayed perfectly still, except when she told him to do things, so she could reach awkward areas.

It seemed he was used to taking orders, and had briefly reverted back to some default 'obey' mode.

After she was finished, she got up and headed off. She hadn't said anything otheer than that she'd be back in a moment. When she returned, she found him still as she had left him.

"Hey, your clothes are a bit torn up." She said, setting something near him.

"If you want to change into something more comfortable, less falling apart, then you're welcome to change your clothes."

The boy was silent for a moment, before seeming to snap out of his little 'trance'.

"Huh?" he asked.

"Oh." he said.

"Really?" he asked her.

"Clean clothes?" he asked further.

When she nodded, he smiled softly.

"Thank you." he said, as he got up and looked around.

"Should I change here?" he asked.

"Come on. I'll show you to a room where you can have some privacy to change your clothes." She said before leading him off to another room once he was following.

"I'll be back where we were before." She said.

"If you need me, that is."

"All right." he replied.

She then left and made her way back to where she was... and she was only waiting for a couple of minutes, before he returned, the clothes fitting him fairly well.

"Thank you again." he said.

"It's been a while since I wore clean clothes."

Reveka just chuckled lightly when she saw him.

"Looks like we're about the same size." She commented.

"And you're welcome." She added with a soft smile.

"What shall I call you? I'm sure you don't want to be referred to as 'boy'." She added before pausing.

'I'm Reveka."

He was silent for a moment.

"Ashley." he said.

"My name is Ashley." he told her.

"And... and... uh..." he then stammered, thinking for another moment.

"Re... ri... r..." he stuttered, trying to pronounce her name.

"River-ka." he finally got out.

Reveka paused. This was new, she'd never encountered someone who couldn't say her name.

"It's all right, Ashley." She said with a smile.

"Close enough." She added. She didn't think it'd be a problem, but... there was no way to tell, really.

"hungry?"

Ashley looked confused for a moment.

"Um... okay." he said.

He was then silent, before his stomach growled. Loudly.

"....heh." he chuckled sheepishly.

"I guess I am." he said.

"I haven't eaten in a few days." he then admitted.

"I don't have much, but I've got some bear meat, if you like bear?" She asked.

"Beyond that, I Could do up what could be a really nice fruit salad?" She asked, not sure what he might like.

Ashley nodded.

"I've had bear before." he told her.

"Had to kill one once, otherwise, I would be killed and deemed a failure." he said.

"And fruit salad?" he asked her.

"I really like fruit." he said with a smile.

"It's so sweet and tasty."
