Congrats on the new job. Must be awesome working with kids, rewarding.
The first month of a new job is always tiring.
Are you a headteacher or part of the admin?
@Robyn: yep yep! I love it ^^ we run a bunch of after school programs, cook for the kids, etc
@Robyn: we get 12 to 17 yr olds so no! I don't have to deal with 11 and under.
@nyreen: Oooo, I tots thought you were doing a youth club for like primary school kids then.
But I used to go to one in secondary school, they had the BEST music room!
@Robyn: yeah! i'm with the teens ^^ i'm better with them tbh, i've worked with teens for the past 4 years and it just works. ooo music! we've been looking for some instruments recently. we got a couple guitars donated to us and the kids love them so we're planning to get more.
@nyreen: Teens can be so hard to work with >o<
The thing that always was really popular and good and bringing kids in, in our youth club, was computers for them to use.
@Robyn: we do movie nights and have a tv set up with a ps3 and games at all times, tons of board games, we cook dinner and have snacks, we have dnd, sports, drama, arts and crafts and more. ^^ we attract all sorts of kids and it's rly cool!
@nyreen: Do you allow people in they're 20s as well? Cause that sounds v fun! >w<
@Robyn: no unfortunately mixing 18+ with 12 - 17 could be bad. I could hire 18 yr olds but I tend to hire 20+ so there is a bit of an age gap between the employee and youth. the dangers of hiring an 18 yr old when you got 17 yr olds is they might date or be friends or the youth may not take the 18 yr old seriously bc they're a year older, etc.
@nyreen: To be honest, hiring people in there early 20s could have the same problem.. But hey what you gunna do!
I swear if there was a youth club in my area I would SO volunteer. u.u
@Robyn: well that's true. ^^ i tend to hire folks who have experience or even folks that i've personally worked with so i know how they are with kids. obvs these people can still do bad things but.. feels safer. anyways either way they'd be fired immediately and the proper folks would be notified of their behavior.
@nyreen: Keeping morals within the work place, good idea.
I remember we had this tuck shop.. They sold penny sweets, people would order loads.. Stuck there counting them
@Robyn: yeah ofc ^^ i want to keep them safe.
