Oh, and I'm playing 5th edition DnD by the way.
I'd recommend it to new players over any of the other editions.
It's really newbie friendly because a lot of things were made simpler compared to past editions.

well the first few times i play i think my play style would be to play dumb until people realize i know what's going on
then it would prob be to lurk until i get enough information
keep in mind i don't actually know how to play the game, this is just my general playstyle for most games

And I mean like, do you wanna play a strong warrior who hits things?
A sneaky type person?
A studious magic user?
Do you wanna be really good at fighting, or stick to being better at stuff outside of combat? (totally a viable play style)
Like, I have another character I'm gonna play soon that isn't gonna do much damage in combat directly, but they're going to do a lot of stuff to make enemies easier to kill, or do less damage to my allies.
And outside of combat they're going to be a social manipulator.
Seducing people for info or favors, and whatnot.
