"Just in case something happens." he reasoned.

"I'll take her back when she wakes up." he then told her.

"Beyond that, I'll let her sleep." he sighed, shaking his head.

"Thanks for this, Emma."

Emma just smiled softly, kindly.

'It's ok." She told him.

"You're quite welcome." She added.

Hours later, Desiree woke and Ash took her home. She didn't say anything, but that wasn't too surprising, and Ash didn't ask any questions, at least not yet.

One thing led to another, and it got to the point where there was too much going on - between dealing with his own work for the Guild, some family stress with his mother and brother, or some strress regarding Desiree... she never did get asked abotu what was going on.

About three months later, there was another incident where Desiree had needed some help. And again. This happened a few times, but every instance could be chalked up to bad luck.

This continued to happen, and while it confused the hell out of Ash, and scared him, Desiree honestly seemed all right. So he wasn't too worried.

One night, there was a pounding on the door. Rowena wasn't home, she was off for a presentation for some of her pyrotechnics, meaning that it was just Ash, Lindsay, and Desiree. It was Ash who answered the door, and when he saw the woman there that was looking far below her standard, he immediately helped her into the house and to the couch, while at the same time trying to get some information as to what had happened.

"I just... I need to chill for a bit." She told him before motioning to a box on the coffee table.

"That thing is gonna kill me if I don't."

Ash was silent as the woman said what she did.

"Er... right." he said. "Sure thing, Demi." he commented.

He then looked at the box on the coffee table, and raised an eyebrow.

"That thing, huh?' he asked.

"Interesting..." he said, trailing off a bit.

"Mind if I take a look?" he asked her.

"Touch it and die. Literally." Demi told him plainly.

"Cass sent me out on a hunt for the damned thing, and I don't think she realized what it was that the hunt for for." She added.

"It's a sword that the council lost ages ago. It's location has been unknown for so long. But I found it, and it's draining me like mad."

"Really that dangerous, huh?" he asked.

"Need medical attention?" he then asked her.

Demi shook her head.

"Just need my mana to replenish. IF you happen to have something that will help with that, that'd be wonderful." She commented.

'Beyond that, I'll be fine." She then said before sighing.

"Damned thing drains mana from anyone who is holding it. The fact that I'm still alive is merely because that box is enchanted to dilute the effects a bit."

"I see." he said, going to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of something, and returning.

"Here." he told her.

"This helps speed up mana replenishing in mages."

"Thanks Ash." She said.

"So how is life here?" She asked, her voice curious.

"I actrually haven't managed to talk to you much since you moved."

"Stressful." Ash responded.

"Guil work's been hard." he told her.

"Family issues not helping." he mumbled.

"My daughter's been in a few incidents that took her to the hospital." he went on.

"So yeah. Stressful."

Demi sighed lightly.

"I don't doubt it. Raising kids is a task and a half." She commented.

"I wouldn't know." She then said lightly, with a shrug. It was about here that Demi heard footsteps coming up from the basement. She could see Desiree as she stepped into the kitchen and closed the door. She waved, Desiree waved back, before pausing a moment and approaching. She seemed to be eyeing the box though.

"What b-b-brings you around, D-D-D-Demi?" Desiree asked curiously. Demi just gave her the information, shortening it to her needing to recharge her mana before heading to the guild. When dEsiree asked why, Demi responded that it was due to the contents of the box.

Before anyone could stop her, Desiree was already opening it and pulling the sword from within, out.

"Here comes ANOTHER trip to the-" he started to say, but then stopped.

"...huh?" he asked.

"She's not collapsing." he said.

"That's not right, is it?" he asked Demi.

Desiree took the blade out of the sheath, allowing Ash to actually see it, and Demi to just grab her phone.

"Ash, we may have problems." She stated as she typed up a text.

Come to the Fyrane manor will you? There's... something that needs to be reported to the council Once sending that, she leaned forward slightly and looked to Desiree.

"Why'd you grab it?" She asked. Desiree looked over to Demi before looking to the blade and shrugging.

"It... It s-s-s-seemed t-t-o call t-to me." Desiree answered.

"Called to you?" Ash asked.

"Okay... odd." he said.

"And... problems?" he asked Demi.

Ash didn't say anything, as they all felt a swirl of mana outside the manor.

"That'd be him." Ash said.

He then made his way to the door and let the elder mage in.

They made their way further inside, and Vincent stopped when he saw Desiree with the blade.

"...dear Lord..." he said quietly.

"It was something that Cass was told to hunt out, but she didn't know what it was. Once I realised it, I figured I should return it." She added before sighing.

"Not so sure on that decision anymore though."

"....." Ash was silent for a moment, before smacking his forehead.

"That explains it!" he exclaimed.

"All those injuries! She's literally at war with herself!"
