Just a head's up, I would say that these characters are pretty self-indulgent. I never planned on sharing them with anyone, so I guess I'm sorry if they're pretty fantastical, lol. I am trying to make them a bit more realistic now as I flesh them out, but yeah. n u n;;;;;

Though I guess it’s not that he has a phobia, it’s more like he doesn’t like it due to bad memories associated with it.
Long story short, there are 3 groups involved in this: humans, and 2 other groups at war with each other (kind of like vampires and werewolves are supposed to hate each other).
Everyone generally tends to stick within their own group, but members have deviated and mingled with the other species, which has led to some humans carrying the genetic information of one of the other two (sometimes both, though that’s rarer, naturally, lol). Jordan is one of these people, but he and his family have no clue because it’s from some ancestors far removed.
I’m going to confuse myself just saying two groups, so let me establish some things, I guess, lol.
(If it wasn’t obvious, I never really came up with much history for these two, my bad, lol. Though they have wings! If that counts for anything. xD)
There’s Group A and then Group B. In black and white terms, A is good and B is evil. In gray terms, neither group cares much for humans, but A tends to protect them while B attacks them. It’s kind of a cycle of cause and effect? Group A protects humans because they realize it’s beneficial to have an ally that will help them fight their enemy, while Group B kills them because they’re aiding their enemy. Though if we go back to the beginning, Group B was just a jerk and started it all against humanity, lol.
Concerning the human hybrids, both A and B are able to distinguish them from regular humans. (I never did come up with how, lol, sorry.) As I mentioned before, although most of these hybrids only have one group’s genetic info, there are some that have both. It’s these people that are generally targeted by both groups as a way to grow their numbers (as they can’t turn regular humans). The process generally involves stressors, the most common being this unbearable screech. (Yes, the call of their people, haha.)
Anyway, Jordan has an older brother in this AU. I’m thinking he’s 10 while Jordan is 8. They were taking a hike in a surrounding forest and were heading home when a storm caught them by surprise. It gets dark pretty fast but they’re doing their best to either make it home, or at least find a safe place to weather the storm out when this screech pierces the air. They both recognize it for what it is and Jordan’s brother (geeze, there’s so much info I need to fill in x.x I’m surprised I didn’t give him a name, considering he is pretty important to Jordan o:) turns to check on him, only to find him leaning against this massive tree trunk, hunched over like he’s in pain. It’s already started raining at this point.
Long story short a member of Group B has targeted Jordan for conversion. Most humans in general are fearful of both groups, and Jordan’s brother is no exception. Jordan himself is terrified because he both hears this monster approaching and something he doesn’t understand is happening to him. He looks to his brother for comfort, but instead sees this look of horror on his face. It’s then that another stressor happens that leads Jordan’s transformation closer to B: his brother flees. Jordan is crushed and left gasping for air. His heart hurts, and his body is aching. The rain is coming down harder and he doesn’t know what to do. An emotional mess, he doesn’t process that two members of Group A have come across him. All he feels is an irrational hatred, and he’s latching onto it for what it’s worth.
Mmm, I guess I should say that conversion isn’t immediate so there’s a period where if a person has started down the road towards one group, a member of the opposite one can inject a suppressant in order to switch them to their respective group. When this happens, these hybrids don’t tend to be treated too well, or are generally outcasts (but they’re still used to fight the opposing group).
Anyway, so Jordan isn’t too far gone at this point so he’s injected with a suppressant and taken in by Group A. He ends up having to be subjected to mental reconditioning (brainwashing?) in order to reconstruct Group B’s tendency to hate humans to at least tolerate them. The memory of his brother also had to be suppressed because remembering what happened that night would be disastrous. All that’s left after this is a hatred for the rain.
That’s honestly pretty much it. xD But if you’re interested…

20 YEARS LATER
Aside from a guy giving him grief due to how he turned, Jordan has been doing alright in Group A.
Although they’re meant to fight in pairs, Jordan prefers to go solo. One night (it’s raining, surprise surprise, ha) he sustains pretty serious injuries. He manages to get away, but he ends up on the side of a road, miserable, trying to shelter himself from the rain with his wings but he’s failing pretty badly. A mother and child end up passing by him, and the girl shows interest, but her mother ushers her away. It’s a while before someone else passes by. At this point, Jordan is close to passing out from blood loss. All he remembers is footsteps approaching him before losing consciousness.
gd this is long so long story short again it turns out it was his brother who picked him up and essentially rescued him. He became a doctor and started treating members from Group A. He felt really guilty about what happened with Jordan in their childhood.
