A little while later, Rene stepped into the room, clad in more work-appropriate clothing, and a white lab coat.

"Hello, Kalin." he greeted her.

"You seem to be looking better than when I first met you." he chuckled.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Any notable pains or persistent discomfort?"

"Hmmm, I see." Rene responded.

"Where is your optometrist?" he asked her.

"Or, rather, WHO is it, as well?" he asked further.

"Maybe I can see about getting you another pair." he offered, as he started to take down notes on the clipboard he had with him.

"Because straining your eyes to the point of getting a headache is not conducive to a speedy recovery." he reasoned, jotting down a few more things.

".......I see." Rene responded after a pause.

"Well, that does complicate things." he mumbled.

"Doesn't make them impossible, but complicates them a bit." he assured her further.

"Where are you going to school?" he asked her.

"We need the information for our records." he added.

In reality, he had other reasons for asking this, but she didn't need to know this. Not right now, anyway.

"And is there anything we can do to help you or make things more comfortable for you?" he asked further.

Rene raised an eyebrow when he heard Kalin mutter at the end.

"Right." he said.

"I'll see what I can do." he told her.

'Harvard, huh? So, Charlene.' he then thought, as he checked Kalin over.

"All right, I'll see what can't be done." he said to her.

"Just rest and take your time, concentrate on recovering and recuperating."

"We'll let you know when things are no longer covered for you." Rene assured her.

"So don't worry about THAT." he said.

With that, he finished taking the notes he needed, and left, closing the door behind her. He then made his way to his office, sitting down at his desk, and looking at his cell phone.

"....." he was silent, as he dialled a number, and brought it to his ear. Unsurprisingly, it went to voicemail. Odds are the one he was calling was busy.

"Char, it's Rene. Call me ASAP when you have the chance." he said, hanging up afterward.

"Charlene, we really need to talk." Rene responded.

"It's regarding an alumnus at your school." he told her.

"....." he was then silent, and sighed.

"All right, I'm dropping the formalities and professional crap." he said.

"A student of yours, Kalin, is in the hospital here, and she's not doing well." he told her.

"Seems she was a victim of aggravated assault and battery."

"Ah, yes." Rene responded.

"Kiczys." he confirmed, scratching his head.

'That name is SO familiar...' he thought, before shaking his head.

"That IS the last name." he confirmed.

"And it sounds like this isn't new for her." he then commented.

"She does." Rene responded.

"She mentioned them to me." he told her.

He then told her what Kalin had said, giving a few names, but it was mostly descriptions.

"Would it be possible for her to get her work here?" he asked.

"And to get her tech delivered here so she CAN work?" he asked further. "...assuming it's still in a usable state, or even still in her dorm." he went on.

"Assuming she has a dorm there, anyway."

"Can you check?" Rene asked.

"She deserves to know if her stuff has been trashed." he told her.

"Depending on the answer, changes my plans, going forward." he went on.

He was then silent for a moment, and sighed.

"She's lucky to be alive, Charlene." he then told her bluntly.

"I'll bet." Rene responded.

"But let me know what you discover about her dorm." he told her.

"If it's wrecked, and her stuff stolen, then let me know." he said.

"Because she'll be here at the hospital for a bit." he continued. "And she's determined to get work done here." he told her further.

"She needs some tech to do that." he added with a light laugh.
