@Turtle Sensei: One of my favorite fanfiction is actual a TMNT one ... Bad Places, by Goblin Kat KC. It has Leonardo breaking under the pressure of being the "perfect son", being experimented on, and his genetics being twisted until he is slowly becoming one of the monsters he fought against while he was kidnapped and forced to fight in a twisted "game" for months on end. It's an incredibly good series - 3 book length fanfictions of incredibly high quality writing.
