Merry Christmas everyone

@okios: im sorry i ruined your xmas with this butchering

@MoodyBats: Oh man yeah my tablet isn't wireless so I suppose I trade the portability for a neverending battery life haha. My pen doesn't need a battery tho, the tech of wacom's styluses is always amazing to me tbh
How long does your tablet last before you have to charge it?

hmm yeah I think both are difficult, but I'm sure it depends on the artist. You improve every time I see your art tho, sometimes it's hard to notice yourself but I can definitely see it.

@Shadami: ooof im bad at designs tho HAHA I'm sure you'll figure it out!

@Hachi: No idea tbh. I switch programs often so i can't tell.
Photoshop drains my pen life so fast though.
last night I had to charge it for an hour. :vanora_neutral:
Some programs don't drain the battery at all or very fast.
Sometimes just using photoshop for a couple of hours will tell me it needs to be charged.
My tablet the only way you can tell i it needs charging is if you plug the chargers in and then the pen will light up red near the buttons.
and for the tablet it will blink.

I am considering getting a display tablet. which is way smaller and the pen doesn't need to be charged.
but i needz $250. :vanora_cry:
But it's the most affordable display tablet. so i mean it is an investment. like every tablet is.

Tbh I don't actually worry about style much. Style is honestly what things you like to draw.
Like if you like how a certain artist draws eyes then you pick those.
it's kinda like mismatching different art styles to make your art style and while you do that your art style also works
itself out in the background.

I see small changes but nothing drastic. Like I know i have improved, my art just doesn't look how I want it to look
which is semi realism. not super realistic. But a middle of realism and cartoony.
tbh I just want to have a painterly painting style.

@MoodyBats: version 2
Oh I hear ya about photoshop. It's such a bulky program and takes forever to start up (understandably, since it has so many functions). I've been meaning to switch to a lighter program since I don't use most of photoshop's functions when I draw, but im lazy haha

does that mean you never know the battery life of your tablet?? what if it dies in the middle of a drawing??

a display tablet is the one where you draw on the screen right? those are quite pricey yeah... I'd like one too but I just can't convince myself to shell out that much money even tho copics are like a similar price

hmm I think that's a good way of looking at it. Style is harder for me than technique just because it's less... objective? I think my art lacks a sort of... personality? It's hard to explain, and I think that's partially why it's also hard for me to figure out how to improve. lately I've been worrying about it less tho. I think art is more fun for me when I stop thinking about those things.

hey small changes eventually build up to big changes. Everyone improves at a different pace, and that's fine. Whenever I read manga chapter by chapter as it comes out, I always feel like the artist has a consistent style/quality. But then I compare the first chapter with the last and it's easy to see how much they've changed over time. It was just so gradual when I was reading it. It might be the same experience for you right now.

@Hachi: im always hopping programs.
between medibang[just for sketching], krita and photoshop CS6.

Yup. I never know until it happens. :vanora_neutral:

Yes it is. But this one is the most affordable one. Most range from $400[huion is pretty affordable too] all the way to $2k.
But displays are more so for people i feel who can produce a lot so it won't be hard to use it or won't be a hard adjustment.

an important rule with art is, if you learn the rules, then you can break them.
so i am trying extra hard so i can do that.
I want to improve on anatomy and everything to get to where i want with my work.

Yeah maybe. I also feel not practicing often is also the problem though.
but i've been doing practices 3-4 days in a row now.

@MoodyBats: Oh I've never tried those programs before (besides Photoshop). What do you think about them?

Ahh yeah I think my friend bought a huion display tablet for about $300 when it was on sale. I tried it out and it was... interesting. I think I'd gotten too used to the non-display tablet and the display tablet doesn't feel the same as drawing on paper, so it was a kinda weird middleground haha.

haha in that case I think my issue is that I'm afraid to break the rules. hmm or that I lack confidence enough to break them. I feel that's always been a part of my personality though.
but it's good that you're starting with the fundamentals! I think you have a solid plan to get to where you want to be, and that's always important.

I feel like 3-4 days is quite a lot of practice! Well... it's more practice than I do (so maybe I'm not the best judge of that...). My production is my practice
It kinda sucks but I just can't motivate myself to draw unless I'm going to do something with the drawing in the end (like give it to someone, etc...)
Don't work yourself too hard tho. It's easy to get burnt out.
