I think it's a matter of the a-hole percentage. The percentage is always the same, but the fanbase was just SO LARGE that the number of assholes was too great.

I kind of just... exist on the fringes of fandom. I don't like to get too deep because people are so fickle about things and ruin stuff for everyone.

Most smaller fandoms are good. Like the Harvest Moon fandom is amazingly wholesome.
Yeah I used to do some HM fanart. =3 They really are super sweet.
Usually if someone is gross in the HM fandom they get shunned right out.
Not sure these days but I used to post fairly regularly at the Ushi no Tane forums. Before I posted mainly DeviantArt but that's a ghost town these days.
