If you sleep with your eyes open, you don't see anything. It's happened to me once years ago though so even I'm not certain anymore.

@chai: You know, I would imagine that's what happens but nope. It felt like I had my eyes closed but when I woke up mys sister was staring at me and told me if I had falling to sleep since my eyes were open the entire time. Very weird.
