Hal laughed in response, and the two of them left her office.

They made their way down the corridors, before stopping at the closed door to the interview room.

"All right then." Hal said.

"He's in here." he told her.

He then opened the door and gestured for her to enter.

"Ladies and bosses first." he smirked.

"Sydney?" Jake asked in response when he saw her.

"Oh, you know each other?" Hal inquired.

"We have a history." Jake said in response.

"As for how myself and Hal met, we literally just met when I showed up here looking for the security position." he then said further.

"Indeed." Hal said.

"We've never met before this."

Jake nodded in response.

"I know." he said.

"I would expect no less." he told her.

"I'm ready whenever you are." he then said further.

"Ask what you need to, do what you need to." he went on.

As Jake spoke, Sydney could see he was different from when she'd first met him. He looked like a man that had had many harsh experiences in his life, and it had toughened him up considerably, both mentally AND physically.

Hal was silent for a moment, and nodded.

"Your time with the drow may have been absolute hell, but we can't deny it improved you." he said.

"Overall... you're just what we're looking for." he added with a smile.

"Plus, there's no residual drow mana left in you." he continued.

"I dare say we've found our man, Sydney." he told the vampire with a small laugh.

"Live?" Jake asked.

"Ah yes, we plan to have live-in facilities." Hal responded.

"We wish for The Unit to be a place where those like us can truly feel safe." he said further.

"Us?" Jake asked, causing Hal to wag his finger a little.

"You'll perhaps learn more about that in good time." he said evasively.

"And yes, I DID say 'us'." Hal then said.

"While I may not look it, I DO fit into that category." he went on.

"I see..." Jake responded.

"So when does this Unit become up and functional?" he asked.

"Hard to say." Hal admitted with a sigh.

"Could be a few months, could be another year or so, or more." he said truthfully.

"........." Jake was silent for a moment.

".....no." he said quietly.

"I am homeless." he admitted.

"Well, that's not technically true." Hal interjected.

"After all, Sydney DID mention that place in San Diego." he reminded him.

"Ah... yes, that's true." Jake replied with a small chuckle.

"Guess I'm not, then." he said, smiling softly.

"Works for me." Hal responded.

"You go and get Jake settled in. The paperwork'll be filled when it's ready." he said further.

"But... unofficially speaking, welcome aboard." he went on, extending a hand towards Jake.

Jake responded by taking the hand, and they shook on it, before doing the same with Sydney.

"Sydney, I'll leave you to take Jake to his new home." Hal then told the vampire.

Jake just nodded in response.

"Right." he said.

With that, he stepped through the portal, emerging in the livingroom of a very nice house.

"Woah." he muttered, looking around.

"Furnished all nicely and everything." he commented with a low whistle.

"Oh, it's not hard to believe at all." Jake responded.

"It's just something I'm REALLY not used to." he told her, before pausing.

"....yes, I realize that's depressing." he quickly said.

"You sure about this?" he then asked her.

"Is it really all right for me to live here, in such a nice place of yours?"
