So, for a little while I've been noticing ants where they should not logically be. Namely in my bathroom, one of the cleanest rooms in my house. I just sweep or vacuum them up, clean a bit an move on. This weekend, my husband dug one post hole for a new fence, and I guess it must have upset them because this morning there were ants EVERYWHERE.
Ants on my bedroom floor.
Ants on my bed.
Ants in the bathroom.
Ants under my desk.
Ants in my dogs bed.
Ants in my laundry.
Ants replacing ants I just cleaned up.
Just. Ants. Everywhere.
My husband went to work with the intention of leaving early to help me but he's important and they need them so I'm just chilling here with a bunch of ants as I rest between cleaning up more ants.
The exterminator will likely not be able to come until Wednesday. I have to go to work myself in about an hour.
I cANT deal with this antastrophy.
Give me all your dark voodoo black magic rituals for keeping ants at bay, please?

Purchase some diatomaceous earth, that should kill them nd keep them out of your house

@SirLionelNigelConrad: Your analogy only works if the proletariat ants are rising up to defeat their bourgeoisie queen, which they most certainty are not. They are being worked to death by the ruling class, so much so that they do not even notice if several hundred of them die on the job. Nice try tho.

My house isn't spotless, but it has been getting regularly cleaned. I have a hard wood floor now so its like pretty easy to keep it swept and mopped with hepestat (hospital grade cleaner, if I didn't spell it right)... I saw the motherf*ers trying to carry away strands of hair. We're two metal heads and a dog, hair is always going to be a thing no matter how clean I get! *flails*

@Peachy: what is diatomaceous earth? It sounds enough like magic to pique my interest haha

@Hazer: I might actually have that handy! Huzzah. Getting to the store isn't easy to do alone in my timeframe, so that is very helpful.

I'm not the homeowner here so I treat the ants as "none of my business" tbh. But I've heard about the vinegar thing and will probably try it when I inevitably have this problem in my own house. For now, I just shake them off the paper towels and put any food I can into tightly sealed containers. They usually don't cause much trouble outside of that.

@glume: it’s like fossilized crustaceans.
If you put it on your floor around the base boards bugs of all sorts will eat it and they will die of dehydration.
If you have animals get food grade DE, just in case they decide to eat it.

You can also use DE to get rid of fleas and rats

It’s really healthy for you and your pets to consume, I like to shake it onto my kitties food, keeps their coat healthy

Edit: also it’s super cheap!
You can buy it at pet stores, or home hardware/lowes etc

@Glume: When I was a kid the grownups would line the doorways and windows with chalk, anywhere the ants are entering. They wont cross the chalk line. My mother in law likes to sprinkle them with salt, which is the most easily on hand ingredient. It works decently well.
