I'm a snacky vermin who likes to snack.
the problem with snacking is that snacks from the store are usually unhealthy.

what are some super cheap and better for you snack ideas?

to add to the challenge, i've got five dollars on me.

@vermii: Idk how healthy it is, but I love snacking on pretzel sticks and hummus. The big bag of pretzel sticks are usually about a dollar and then the hummus is $2-3.

Hummus always lasts me a good while too!

If you have an Aldi around you, they always have really cheap snacks.

also, I LOVE this white corn and black bean salsa that my mom makes. It was pretty cheap to make too. I'll see if I can remember all of the ingredients. It makes a huge bowl that lasts for days.

Grapes, wet them with water, roll them in sugar, freeze them.

Banana, sliced, if you have peanut butter on hand, make a peanut butter and banana sandwich dip half in chocolate then freeze until chocolate is hard
To make it cheap, if you have PB on hand ofc,just grab like two aero bars and 2 bananas.

White Corn and Black Bean Salsa

6 Roma Tomatoes- $0.88/lb and a lb is about 8 tomatoes
1 Can of Black Beans- $0.72
1 Can of White Corn- $1.48
1 Onion- $0.07/ounce and one onion is about 8oz. soooo.... $0.56?
Juice of 1 Lime- 1 lime is like $0.20, my local store is doing 5/$1.00
Cilantro- $0.50/bunch

(It comes out to be about $5, but that's without the chips and what's salsa without chips? )

chop up the tomatoes, onion, and cilantro, drain the black beans and corn, mix it all together and BAM deliciousness on a tortilla chip.
I like to add some garlic to the mix too. mmmmmm garlic.

@Little Crane:
oof

@Mousy:
big bags of any snack item here is like $3-$4 a pop.
Hummus is a little more.

I should try that recipe! that sounds lovely. when i have the money though.

uh, i wish they had these kinds of prices here. o -o
I dunno if we have Aldi in Canada. I've never heard of it.

@SirLionelNigelConrad:
those things sound like they would be terribly expensive. just the bricks from the grocery store are around $15 dollars!
damn.

i love cheese to an unhealthy amount though. ask a friend of mine, my cheese consumption literally scared her.

@Peachy:
that's interesting! I would have never thought to do that with grapes.

dipping a peanut butter and banana sandwich in chocolate sounds absolutely genius!

the next time i have peanut butter and bananas, i'm absolutely doing that!

@Totalanimefan:
things like hummus and cottage cheese aren't things i can stomach to be honest.
it's just the texture. something about it. HOWEVER, my mom's homemade hummus on the other hand.

-wearyface and ok hand emojis-

I should ask to borrow her processor someday. or maybe i can go over and we can make hummus.
i could eat that stuff for days.
