The pattern was a jpg file. But it doesn't matter what image you use. The enlarged one looks like crap. Here have another example:

That looks horrible omg. Definitely worse than the pattern, which could pass if desperate for a pattern at a certain size.

Shutterstock usually has really nice stock images. Whenever I need something I do like going through them.
