Never really played with 'em much before. Got some of the basic colours (Y'know, red, blue, yellow, black) but no white. Couldn't really do much with that, as I have NO idea how to lighten/soften a colou rwithout white. I usually do portraits, so I needed that.
Now that I have a white, I've been working on a Princess rosalina portrait for a friend of mine as a tester.... and finding that while the skin tone ain't perfect, but I'm already loving working with them. XD

Have you ever used?

@Amber Lynne: Oooh, you already got the basic colors you need. I took a couple of painting classes when I was still a college student. I really like how the colors blend, but the smell and how long the paint took to dry kept me from pursuing it at home.
Princess Rosalina is super pretty, and I hope your painting comes out awesome~

Mine don't really smell, so I can't relate on that point.
Drying time on the other hand......

@Amber Lynne: Mixing colors is always a challenge, and everyone has their own way. I’m glad you got the white because that is prolly the most used color you’ll need for mixing.
Oooh, which brand are you using? Maybe some brands don’t have that weird oil stink I experienced with mine.
And you’re right, that is the plus side of it taking forever to dry. Acrylic was more annoying because it dried too fast, and wasn’t as forgiving if you messed up (paint would clump up if you tried to paint over a spot too many times).

@Faewild: Oil paints are fantastic.
I used to be ... well... put off by how complex and difficult they seemed to be.
Now though? Now I realise they are a LOT easier to work with than I expected. XD

@Tsundererra: The cheep ones do have a bit of a .... 'fragrance', lol, but only if you stick your nose close.
The others? Like not at all, it seems. At least not that I've noticed.


I really don't like the Cheep ones though.

@Amber Lynne: The Windsor & Newton ones were the ones my class used. I guess they changed the ingredients, or the ones in America use something else in them. What don’t you like about the Cheep ones? That oil paint tube is so cute.
