@Xanthan: Watercolours are NOT the best option. You have to prepare the canvas, as it can't naturally absorb the water.
(There's watercolour paper that works infinitely better!)
Oils or acrylics would definitely be your better options, as they can be used on canvas a lot easier. You still should prime it first, o0r whatever, but that just makes the result better, not a necessity. (Hell, the odd time I use a canvas, I just do a layer of white acrylic on it and let it dry before using it.)
Acrylics dry stupid fast though.
Oils require paint thinner for easy clean up, or just like... dawn... That shit goes through oils and such, after all.
Acrylics can be cleaned with water.
Oils are also more expensive, on average.
I'd say oils myself, but I don't like acrylics because of the drying time. XD
