I feel patreon is really for monthly perks and i cannot give people perks tbh.
If i could afford to make stickers myself i'd do that.

I think patreon works best for people that are already pumping out loads of original content anyway. Like, I know people do take commissions there but it's not really set up for that

Yup very true.
I also feel more for people who do merch. Like prints, stickers, etc.
As 90% of what I see on there is prints, stickers, access to a discord and newsletters too.

@moodybats: if you can spare $25, StickerApp.com makes quality stuff for fairly cheap. it's not top-tier quality but they often give me more than i order at no extra cost too.

i tried to do a monthly sticker but just couldn't keep up with it

@Addy: Nope, sadly i can't.
I only have $9.

But i don't think anyone would be interested in stickers by me anyways.
At least for the time being lol.

@moodybats: oh yeah definitely don't stretch yourself too thin

if you do get a patreon up and running you can have it as a goal; maybe once you get $50 a month you can put $25 of that aside for stickers. i've seen some patreons only offer stuff once a threshold is up.

i was doing the monthly sticker and then planning on selling the leftovers, profit margins on stickers can be really good (StickerApp's are $25ish for 50+ and if you sell them for $2 each you don't need to sell many) but i also had the extra $25 to drop each month. even at its peak my patreon only made $13 a month haha ;;

@Addy: I'm honestly not going to be making a patreon unless I actually have something more substantial than
stickers.
Like doing my own prints, merch, etc.
But i am very far away from that.

But i don't find any of my ideas worth diving into at this time
as i only have 2 at the most interested in merch.
and that's just not enough to actually make a patreon for.

@moodybats: oh yeah i wasn't trying to sound like i was pushing you one way or another

you gotta go at your own pace. just something to consider once you have the following and motivation to go for it!!

@Addy: Stickerapp is one i do want to use in the future.
But my imagination is utterly useless.
And I've been having a lot of guilt just making art tbh.

@MoodyBats: I think a lot of us are in the same boat, what with the pandemic and now the protests, it seems kinda... frivolous? I guess? That's on top of the normal anxiety of "why am I wasting my time with this I should have gone to trade school"

It's not though. It's what inspires and holds us together

@lilykin: <3 beautiful advice

i'm right there with you guys. we should be doing it for what we enjoy but there's a lot of things that can weigh you down like.. turning a profit and stuff. i miss when drawing was more fun and i gotta recapture that.

@Addy: It is so hard to switch off the I want to make this thing but I can't b/c it doesn't make money mindset. I've been trying balance it better with one self indulgent project and one project that I genuinely want to make bu will also turn a profit

ie: Telly Tubbies (literally no one else will want this but me lol) and Animal Crossing "inspired" amigurumi (which have a waaay broader appeal)

Idk what to do about drawing tho. I can keep up the momentum for a week or so before I feel burnt out. I haven't been able to balance it with my amigurumi projects very well

@Lilykin: mine isn't really related to pandemic.
I just live with highly religious family
and i feel guilt drawing demons. :vanora_sweat:

@MoodyBats: Ah, a guilt I am familiar with. If it's a crisis a faith, I'm afraid I can't offer much advice. I'm came out to agnostic to my family many years ago and haven't looked back since ^^;

If not, do they need to know? I certainly don't share everything with my family. You could cite something like a non disclosure agreement with a client if they press you about it. Or block them on social media like I did lol

@Lilykin: I'm not religious. I have learned it because i was kinda forced to.
But i disagree with it.
But my dad i know would not understand.
So Now i jus have constant guilt of drawing what I like. Which is strongly against their religion.

Not much I can honestly do.
Even if i don't show them, i still have fear they will find out.
They aren't on social media.

@MoodyBats: Make sure everything has a password and make sure you lock devices when you aren't using them

For windows at least alt+tab will let you switch quickly between programs and windows key+L will let you lock it you computer quickly
