@Rowan: You can earn volts by posting, or by clicking the floating airship on the main page (it kicks in on your second day), Ohms you earn by donating to the site, and event currency (currently snowflakes, but it changes every event) can be earned by posting and by playing the jigsaw games.
If you need help buying commons you can visit Totalanimefan's charity in the charities subforum for some free volts :)
