Cain grabbed the bag of sand that they had in case of emergencies, and dumped some on the fire to help smother it.

"What the fuck, you ask!?" he exclaimed.

"I'm stopping you from LEVELING the place!" he told her.

"I saw what you were making." he went on. "And I saw what was over there!" he continued, gesturing to what was on the other table.

"Do you WANT to destroy this house!?" he asked her.

"I don't see any neutralising crystals around, so yeah. I could ask you the same thing!" he told her further.

"What the HELL, Mom!?"

She was silent for a moment, looking over to what he was motioning to, before looking back at him.

"... what the hell are you going on about?" She asked.

"I'm prepping things for tomorrow. You know that. These are things that need to be prepared in advance." She then said.

"What's wrong with that."

"WHAT." he repeated.

"Mom! If THAT..." he said, gesturing to what was on the desk. "...and what you were about to complete are brought within 100 metres of each other, you KNOW the results are explosive." he told her.

"This house would have been leveled, everything would have been destroyed, and there would be nothing more than a smoldering crater here!" he went on.

"Is that what you WANT!?"

"What? You're being uncharacteristically ridiculous." She said simply as she pushed past him, making her way back to the table and taking stock in what was still there.

"I think I still have enough to do up the mix." She muttered.

"Good. You didn't destroy everything."

"...YOU'LL DESTROY EVERYTHING!" Cain shouted at the top of his lungs.

"If you do up the mix again, YOU. WILL. DESTROY. THIS. HOUSE." he stated, growing angrier.

"Mom, you KNOW this!" he declared.

"You've stopped me from doing it in the past, when I was younger and dumber!" he stated further.

"Mom, stop this! Now!" he practically ordered her.

"If you don't... I'll MAKE you." he then threatened.

"Ah. Ok." She said, dismissively.

"Just fuck off Cain. Let me do what I'm doing. If you're that scared, get out of range." She stated simply.

"If you're right and I'm wrong and this kills me, so be it. My own damned fault." She added.

"however, you are in my way." With that, she shoved him aside again, as he'd gotten in the way, again. Once he was down, she set to work doing what she was needing to.

Cain was stunned at how his mother was acting.

The fact that she had so little regard for her own safety... her own life/unlife... the house that they shared... it was unreal.

And it hurt him. A lot.

He then gritted his teeth angrily, and got to his feet.

"...so be it." he said.

Then, before she could react, he leapt towards her. He left the floor and crashed into her, tackling her and sending them both flying to the floor.

"I'm stopping you! RIGHT HERE AND NOW!"

She hit the floor, hard, but didn't move after a few seconds.

"I... " She started, and Cain was able to see a bit of an unusual and unexpected shadow behind her eyes for a moment. It seemed to be a trick of the light, before it faded. A moment or two later, she punched him, hard enough he ended up on the floor next to her.

"Get the fuck OFF of me, Cain." She snapped.

"The hell was that all about?"

Cain had not known what that shadow was. And that concerned him. If it were demonic, then he would have been able to identify it right there and then... but it was a mystery to him.

He hadn't time to think about it, though, as he looked to his mother when she snapped at him.

"What was it about!?" he exclaimed.

"The hell is WRONG with you!?" he asked her.

"You're about to blow up the house and destroy everything we have, I tell you to stop, you refuse, I say I'll do it by force, and then you force my hand!" he told her.

"You have no right to be acting this angry and indignant!"

"Oh whatever." She stated as she got to her feet and brushing herself off. It was about then that she seemed to realise what was around her.

"... Wait." She started.

"What the fuck? Why would I..." She kjnew that Cain wouldn't have an answer to that, but it didn't change the fact that she didn't know what the hell had happened, rightly.

".... Ok... I'm going to work." She then said. "If your dad comes home and wonders where I am... Just... tell him I'm there." was the last thing she said before heading to the door, before pausing.

"Would you mind cleaning this up? I don't trust myself to do it myself."

"...." Cain was stunned to the point of silence for a moment, before he managed to nod his head.

"R-right." he said.

"Yeah... yeah I'll... I'll clean up here." he told her.

'What the hell...?' he then thought.

'What was that? Was she... possessed?' he asked himself. 'No... no, I would have seen what that... shadow was.' he reasoned, as he got to his feet and looked around the room, surveying the damage.

"Be careful, Mom!" he called to her.

"Something's not right, and I don't know what it is!"

"Why else do you think I'm heading to work?" She asked in response.

"Because something really ain't right" She added, and that was the last thing she said before leaving the room, leaving him to clean up the mess, as she made her way upstairs. She grabbed her keys, made sure everything was good, and made her way out to the car before taking off. All the while, she was puzzling over what the hell had happened, and it wasn't fun.

As she walked into the building, she waved to Jake with a light sigh.

"Yo, lemme in. I need to talk to the bvoss about something."

Jake looked at her, nodded, and darted his tongue out.

"All right." he said.

"You're good to go." he told her, pressing the buzzer and letting her in.

"...what's up?" he then asked.

"You seem puzzled and... concerned over something." he commented, looking her up and down, but focusing on the minor details in her expression and overall mannerisms.

"Or is this a case of you can't really answer and hope the boss'll be able to grant those?" he asked her further.

"All I can do, is ask the boss if HE can help, because I'm not sure where else to get any possible answers." She added with a light sigh.

"And thanks." she added before heading off, knowing that there was no point in lingering there.

Jake watched her go, before looking forward again, puzzling over this.

"What could be so confusing and concerning for her, I wonder...?" he asked himself. "She lives with a friggin' demon. She should be immune to weird crap, combining that with all she's seen and experienced." he reasoned.

Meanwhile, her trip to Hal's office was an uneventful one, and she made it there quickly. After a... brief and curt exchange with the receptionist, the woman pressed the comm button.

"Agent Callimachi is here to see you." she said.

"Send her in." Sharp responded.

She didn't even wait, and entered the office.

"Something wrong, Aedan?" Sharp asked her.

Aedan closed the door before meeting Hal's gaze, and he could seen how she was a bit concerned about something.

"Hal... I just tried to make Fire Spark and a Void Elixir... in the same room. I don't know why I would do that, I don't know why I didn't even realise it was an issue. What I do know, is that Cain had to literally tackle me to the ground to get me to stop." She told him honestly.

"You're the only one I can think of that could help me figure out WHY that happened." she added.

"So, please grant me this: I wish to know what happened."

"..." Hal was silent as he heard all that.

"Right." he said.

"Yes, that is certainly alarming." he agreed.

"And granted." he said, snapping his fingers.

Instantly, Aedan was overcome with a sensation of... nothing. Blackness. Total blackness. She couldn't see anything or really... feel anything. However, that didn't change the fact that she could 'feel' the darkness 'moving'.

As though the inky blackness that surrounded her was... 'alive'.

"All I can say, is that it's a good thing I'm already dead." She muttered before meeting Hal's gaze.

"I request to be locked up, somewhere I can't harm myself or others, because I don't know if I trust myself NOT to do something stupid or careless."

Hal was surprised to hear that.

"Ah... I admit, I didn't expect to hear THAT." he said.

"But... very well." he then said.

"If that is what you request, and if that is what you feel is best for yourself and others, so be it." he told her.

He then opened a filing cabinet and passed her a form.

"While it seems you have a lucid state of mind, sign and initial this." he said.

"It's a form that states that you are being locked up of your own volition." he told her further. "Red tape and such, so that this won't become a blotch on your career or anything." he reasoned.

Aedan nodded before approaching his desk and doing as was needed.

"I don't want to do this, but I wouldn't normally mix those two things in the same damned room without some sort of interference... I don't know what's going on, but I do know that I can't be trusted at the moment." She said simply as she slid them back over to him.

"So thank you for granting me this. Hopefully it won't be an issue, and it'll be all for naught, but... I just can't risk it."
