Ezra kept listening to her, feeling like crap for having assumed something about this woman, but it disappeared when she mentioned her house getting destroyed. His eyes shot up in alarm and he looked at her.

"What do you mean, destroyed?" he asked, disbelief evident in his voice. "Why would someone want to destroy your house?"

Maddie glanced at him once more through the mirror when he spoke. "Just that." She answered quietly when he asked about her 'home'.

"I don't think they did it on purpose, might've been some reckless kids just wanting to have fun." She spoke quietly, lowering her eyes. She knew that wasn't the case, but she wouldn't telk him that.

Ezra considered what she was saying carefully. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see that she clearly didn't believe that was the case. But he understood her; he was still a stranger after all, and there was only so much she'd be comfortable telling him. So he dropped it.

"We're here," he said, as the car pulled up to the driveway of his house. He parked the car in its designated spot in front of the house.

He stepped out of the car and walked to Maddie's side, opening the door for her.

Maddie was thankful Ezra didn't ask further, and went back to quietly watching the rain until he spoke again. Letting her know they had arriver at the house.

When he opened the door, she blinked a couple of times as if surprised and carefully got out of the car, her arms lightly wrapped herself.

She'd follow him insidw without saying much, and keeping her eyes downcast.

Ezra walked into his house, with Maddie following close behind him. He unlocked the door and opened it, letting her go through first, before shutting the door behind him. It was still pouring outside, and it didn't look like it would let up for at least a few hours. He ran his hand through his hair, trying to get the excess water off, and turned to take off the coat that Maddie was wearing, the one he'd given her earlier. Hanging it up on the coat rack, he called out for Raisa.

"Master Ezra, how many times have I told you not to leave wet things on the coat rack!" Raisa scolded him the second she came into view from the direction of the kitchen and took the coat off the rack, while Ezra only chuckled sheepishly. She then turned to Maddie and smiled warmly.

"This way, Miss," she said, taking hold of Maddie's arm. "I have some warm clothes for you, and there's a shower if you'd like to wash."

She then turned to Ezra. "Dinner will be ready in half an hour."

Maddie jumped a little when the woman suddenly voiced her appearal and scolded the man for hanging up a yet coat, her hands holding together in front of herself firmly as her eyes focused on her feet.

She tensed some when she felt a hand in her arm, snd simply nodded. "Thank you.." She murmured quietly when addressed by the woman and quietly followed her when it was time.

She slowly moved her eyes to glance around as they walked, taking in her surroundings as she was in an unfamiliar place.

The poor girl seems so jumpy.

Raisa was sympathetic, and wanted to calm her down and let her feel comfortable. She led the young woman to a room, freshly made up with soft blankets, a pile of neatly folded clothes sitting on the bed.

"The shower is in there, and I managed to get some comfortable clothes for you," she said to her, a kind smile on her face. "Don't be shy, and ask if there's anything you need, okay? There are fresh towels in the bathroom, so you can just take one off the rack."

--------

Ezra had stepped into the shower, washing off all the rain from his hair and skin, letting his thoughts run free. Most of them were about Maddie. Everything about her, and the way he acted around her, puzzled him. Right from his odd instinct to peer behind the wall, where she'd been hiding, to the impulsive act of bringing her home. He wasn't himself, and somehow, it felt more like his own self than nearly anything else he'd done in his entire life. Sighing, he turned off the shower, stepped out and got dressed in home clothes, a grey V-neck t-shirt and black sweatpants, ready to sit down for dinner.

Maddie listened as the woman spoke, not having caught her name earlier since she was distracted by everything else. She nodded lightly, her eyes focused on the bed and clothes that were neatly folded. She'd never seen such a fluffy looking bed before..

"Thank you." She said softly before slowly approaching the bed and carefully picking up the clothes. She paused for a moment, then glanced at the woman. "Do you have a sling I could use?" She asked hesitantly. A sling for her arm.

It took Raisa a few seconds to understand what the young lady was talking about; when she realized, she gasped in shock.

"¡Ay Dios mío!" She hurried over to the girl and examined her arm. "Why didn't you say anything before? Even Master Ezra... He didn't notice you were hurt?"

She thought for a moment, and then gestured to Maddie to wait. She rushed to the kitchen and picked out some of Ezra's old clothes and other things, that he'd wanted to give away. She tore up a bedsheet into long strips and returned to the room.

"Hold your hand steady," she said, and began wrapping her arm in a makeshift sling. "Is that better?"

Maddie almost wished she hadn't said anything, until the woman shouted and hurried to her. "Well.. I.. N-no.." She murmured quietly as the woman spoke to her. She was still wondering why Ezra had even talked to her to begin with.

She stayed where she was when the woman left, and stayed still with her arm out like instructed as the woman made a make-shift sling for her. "Yes, thank you.." She spoke quietly. Maddie bowed a little and picked up the clothes before disappearing in the bathroom to take a shower, setting aside the clothes and carefully slipping out of the sling to set it aside. She couldn't very well shower with it on, or it'd get wet.

She turned on the water and closed the door before slowly undressing, moving her injured arm as little as possible. Once shed of the wet clothes, she stepped inside the shower and closed it, letting the steamy water warm her cold skin before doing anything.

Ezra had finished his bath in ten minutes, and he was walking around the house with nothing to do. Eventually, he found Raisa and walked up to her, smiling.

"Thank you for taking care of my friend at such short notice, Raisa. I appreciate it." Raisa simony gave him a cross look.

"I would've taken care of her better if you had told me the poor girl had hurt her arm."

Ezra was surprised to hear that. "What?" He genuinely hadn't noticed, and he felt bad that Maddie had put up with the pain all this time. If he'd known, he would've taken her to a hospital first thing.

Maddie stood under the water for a good five minutes before even starting to wash herself, just enjoying the feel of the warm water. She'd begun to use the puff to wash herself down, carefully. She had more than her share of scars from previous fights and a few more recent bruises and such. After rinsing off, she tried to wash her hair without using her injured arm too much. Maybe she'd broken it, but she didn't think it was a big deal. It didn't feel broken, sprained maybe..

There was a reason she didn't say anything when she'd met Ezra. She didn't want to go to a hospital. Maddie didn't do well in hospitals. She knew if she was careful with her arm, and refrained from using it, it'd get better if it wasn't broken.

She soon stepped out of the shower and dried herself off with the towel, before slipping into the clean clothes she'd been given and carefully putting the sling back on before leaving the bathroom and sitting on the bed in the bedroom. How did this even happen? Maddie slowly breathed out and laid down on the fluffiest blanket she'd ever laid on, since becoming a 'street rat.'

Ezra was starting to get a little worried. Ever since Raisa had told him she'd been hurt, his guilt tripled, and so did his concern. Now, she wasn't showing up for dinner, and he was starting to get on edge, wondering why that was.

"Give her time, Master Ezra," Raisa said to him. "It must be taking her a while to come because she's dealing with a sling, poor girl."

A sling? This was getting worse by the minute. Succumbing to his impatience, he stood up and walked over to the guest room where he knew Maddie was, and knocked on the door.

"Maddie?" he called out. "Dinner's ready, if you're ready and want to eat."

Maddie had so close to allowing herself to doze off, until she heard her name and mention of dinner. "Dinner?" She murmured quietly, quickly sitting up and jerking her arm. She bit back a curse and stood. "I'm coming She called quietly after a moment.

How could she have forgotten about being told dinner would be ready? Now she was embarrassed. Maddie wrapped a loose bed jacket around herself and left the room, her eyes avoiding Ezra's when she opened the door.

He could tell that she was avoiding his eyes when she walked out the door, but he decided not to say anything about it; he was just happy she was coming out to eat. He walked behind her, back to the dining table.

"She's here, Raisa," he said. "We're ready to eat." Raisa looked at them from the kitchen doorway, pleased to see Maddie.

"How are you feeling, Miss Maddie?" she asked. "Is the sling comfortable?"

Maddie was quiet as they walked down the hall. So much was going through her mind right now, she hardly knew what to do with those thoughts.

Seeing Raisa, she nodded lightly and eased into the dining chair. "Yes, thank you Ms. Raisa." She spoke quietly. "It feels better." She offered the woman.

"Ay, why do you call me Miss like that?" Raisa protested. "Just Raisa." She gave Maddie a kind smile, and went into the kitchen as she saw her sit down at the dining table. She soon returned with a large pot of lasagna and set it down on the table, as Ezra sat down on the seat opposite Maddie.

"Feel free to eat as much as you want," Raisa said to Maddie. "No need to be shy, like I said."

Maddie shyly nodded when Raisa lightly protested against being called Miss, and absently ran her fingers along thr make-shift sling her other arm was resting in.

When the woman came back with the large pot of lasagna, she nodded some. "Thank you." She murmured quietly. Maddie got herself a decent portion without it being too much, since she really didn't eat much, and blinked when she took her first bite. "This is delicious, Raisa." She said woth a small smile.

Raisa seemed please hearing that Maddie liked the food; Ezra chuckled.

"You should try her chili sometime," he said. "I haven't had better chili even in some of the best restaurants in town." Raisa made dismissive gestures with her hand.

"He flatters me too much," she said. "There's dessert after, so make sure you both leave space for it, okay?"

Maddie couldn't help the small smirk that tugged at her lips when Ezra spoke, and Raisa seemed to dismiss the praise. She wasn't eating at a slug speed, but she was definitely savoring it as she ate, and giving her body time to process that she was a decent meal. "I look forward to getting a chance to try it someday, then." She said quietly, a little doubtful in actually getting to try it.

After she managed to finish eating the portion she'd gotten, she waited for the promised desert.
