Voltie — she/her Posted 3 years ago ( 2022/03/29 23:16:07 )

My coworker has a buncha chickens and offered to give me eggs if I bring her an egg carton.
So I did!
I haven't had FRESH eggs since I was a child so I'm excited
ive probably consumed so much bleach in my life
but also nervous cause shes like
"oh yeah i have a rooster too and I tried my best to filter out the fertilized eggs but if something looks weird just chuck it"
so every egg is like
will this be normal or will it have a thing in there
kdfjng

but she did give me 1 duck egg too :vanora_xd:
never had those before, wonder if it tastes any different

this isn't them, but they have these colors

My favorite gift is when people share their farms and gardens ;v;
fresh food items are the bestttt

Neat! I've never had fresh eggs (that I'm aware of) but I've always wanted to try them! I'd totes be down to raise a chicken to produce eggs if I had the right environment for one. Maybe when I get a house!!

    I was lucky with a few clients that had chickens so I would power feed them corn to have a hot new egg each morning. Duck eggs are too rich for me, but worth a try just to have one.

    I feel like everyone in Oregon had chickens.

That’s really cool you’ve got someone to share eggs with you! I was raised with chickens and miss fresh eggs so much. I try to at least get the more expensive/healthy eggs at the market. I’ve converted my wife too; she was raised on cheap grocery store eggs and thought I was a snob at first but you can really taste if the hens being taken care of. (I’m autistic and chickens are a special interest so I tend to care a lot lol).

I used to have the ones that laid the blue and green ones too; they can be super friendly.

@Synth:
I. LOVE. Chickens.
My uncle in michigan used to have more land where he had a large garden (like a mini farm) and a chicken coup. I was about 10 when I went to stay with him for a month or two during a summer break, and it was so enjoyable harvesting fresh veggies and feeding the hens, gathering their eggs. Theirs were white and brown, none of the green/blue tinted ones that I remember. There's a name for the hens that can lay those, but I cant remember! Super pretty though :D
They were very happy hens

@Jolly: ahhhhh that’s so great. I think I was probably around 10 when my parents got chickens too. They kinda became “my” chickens because I really liked them and spent a lot of time with them (and eventually became the only one taking care of them; my parents were bad about getting animals on a spur of the moment thing and then not taking care of them….)

A few of them tamed down and would follow us around the yard and go on walks down the road with us and the dogs. They can be silly little things.
