"Alright, Myraj," Officer JC steps up to the glass cage housing the towering beast, crossing his arms with a stern glare, "Time to talk."
The creature paces back and forth, laughing to itself before morphing into a more humanoid shape.
"Talk," Myraj admires the fingers that sprouted from its body as it lets out a low chuckle, "I do enjoy talking about myself, Officer." It smirks, brushing its fingers against its lips as it tilts its head at JC inquisitively, "What is it you're so eager to know?"
JC scowls, leaning against the glass, "Let's start at the beginning. Why did you do it? Why kill an innocent person - for what purpose?"
Myraj laughs slightly, turning from JC, "Ah... an unfortunate casualty. You see, Officer...my real target was actually that Mayor of this great city of yours. Volkan, is it?" Myraj glances back at JC and Milly's shocked expressions, smiling at the reaction. "You see, I wanted something more than what I've always been all these years. Hopping around from commoner to commoner... It just becomes so tiresome after a while. But something like a Mayor? The power they have over an entire city? Its people?" Myraj turns on its feet, kissing its fingers in bliss. "Perfection. Oh, how I long for that raw power. The power I deserve." Myraj approaches the glass, giving JC a sly smirk. "Imagine everything I could accomplish."
"Judging by the mess you've already left in the short time since you got here, I don't think I want to imagine..." JC grumbles back
"You know..." Myraj coos, the very hint of a growl lacing its words, "It wouldn't have been such a mess if you humans were better at staying out of my way..."
"And is that what happened to your victim?"
"Ah... That paltry thing..." Myraj laughs, "Your mayor may be an unobservant fool, but that concerned citizen couldn't mind their business when they saw me stalking him... Hm. Price to pay for playing hero, wouldn't you say?"
Shoving JC aside, Milly narrows her eyes as she taps her nail against the glass, "Alright, I'm sick of hearing this thing get off on itself. I've got a bigger question."
"Hm," Myraj goes silent momentarily as it sizes up the woman, unclear if it was offended or intrigued as it rumbles, "Proceed."
"What did you do to Garry? Is he, you know," she grimaces, sliding her finger across her throat, "Or... Wait, there IS a Garry right? This isn't some kind of weird long con?"
"Milly..." JC sighs rubbing this bridge of his nose, "Of course there's a Garry," He eyebrows furrow, trying and failing to hide his worry as he glares back at the beast, "But I've been wondering the same thing. Speak up."
Myraj laughs, biting his nails with a delighted (if not threatening) grin, "What authority..." The creature presses its hand against the glass, body morphing to something slightly more grotesque as it towers over JC staring down at him with intense, swirling eyes, "That's what made me want you, you know..."
JC glances over to Milly, ignoring her barely contained smirk as he shifts his attention back to the creature, "Uh... Right. Me? What's that mean?"
"Well... You're clearly the leader, aren't you?" Myraj tilts its head to an unnatural angle, it's gaze never breaking from the officer, "You hold such power in this community... Such respect... And I'm sure the mayor would have no problem holding a private audience with you..."
"Right..." JC mumbles with a frown, "But where's Garry fit into this? Why didn't you just go after me to begin with?"
"That was the plan..." Myraj sighs wistfully, "But I happened to stumble on a delightful scene, of this Garry not watching his feet and plummeting down into an open manhole. Your partner isn't the brightest, is he?"
The two officers exchange glances, shrugging and nodding. That did sound like Garry.
"Voltra's sewers are famously tricky, he could still be lost down there..." JC rubs his chin, "We'll send a search party to retrieve him..." Myraj's laugh cuts him from his thoughts, "What's so funny?"
"Search party... Retrieval... You're close..." The creature's grin grows sharper as it whispers, "I couldn't leave loose ends. I doubt what you're searching for is alive, by the time I was done with him..."
JC's eyes widen as he reaches out to grab Milly's arm, pulling her away from the cage as they wordlessly dash off. There was no time to waste. No time to linger. No time to listen to Myraj's frustrated calls for them to wait.
"You imbeciles didn't even let me finish! I have so much more to say like how it was actually I who attacked the one called Vontell! And-"
But it was too late, they were gone.
