If he's not been fixed, then male cats with testicles in place do tend to roam. It's possible he's met up with a lady cat (or cats) in heat and is making kittens. If he has been fixed, he could atill be roaming and making sure there are no other males in the area. If he's out longer than a week, then I'd start taking pictures around, maybe one of the neighbors took him in.
