Forums General Chit-Chat When you've lurked too long...

Donator Posted 7 years ago ( 2018/02/28 01:55:02 )
I've literally been a lurker for so long by now,
I have no clue on how NOT to lurk.

Like I know it's really just as easy as posting somewhere,
just jump into a thread and start talking but it really doesn't
feel that easy.

Online communities used to be how I bypassed my social
anxieties and chat with people but now that I've lurked in
the shadows for years (on other communities) I feel
anxious just thinking about putting myself back out there.

Anyone else a lurker by nature?

@Q t e a p o n: Probably a lot of it stemmed from RL getting in the way of my online activity and when I came back, a lot of the friends I had made had moved on to other sites or just become busy with RL as well. I found it harder to become active again on (any) site when the people I was already comfortable with weren't there. It felt harder to just hop into a random thread and start talking to someone new.

I also feel like I have a hard time making connections with people anymore.

@Elithiya I feel that on a spiritual level, I do. I don't remember it being that way, in the beginning it seemed to come easy when I first came on to a community. I think the longer I lurked and the longer I felt like I was being ignored when I did try branching out, it fed into that thought that maybe it was just me.

Having a regular place to go and talk is really helpful, I used to just frequent the quest threads or hangouts of the people I knew and stayed there.
