Don't forget your tent.
An old friend had that. He grabbed a box, thinking it was his tent. He got at the other site of the country, just to find out the box was filled with old newspaper and not the tent.

I've only been camping once as an adult, and I went with my friend who handled all the planning and packing. I did learn a few things though! Like that it takes way more wood than you'd expect to keep a campfire going. We loaded the back of my friend's car with firewood and we still had to walk around the campsite and find dead trees to haul back because it wasn't enough. I also learned a convenient campfire recipe - chop some potatoes, onions and peppers, wrap them in tinfoil with oil and spices, and throw them in the fire for a few minutes!

I have not liked camping the two times I have been. The first time the tent wasn’t set up right, it rained and I was the lucky one who got drenched. Spiders got inside the tent too.

The second time no one but anything on the floor of the tent to keep the cold from the ground out so I froze all night.

I love nature, hiking and exploring, but I have not had a good experience in camping yet.

@apollo im burning: I’m game to try camping again, just need to go with the right people and bug repellant!

Spiders are not my cup of tea, they were the only things that got in. As long as you store your food away from where you sleep you should be okay :)

@apollo im burning: Oh, then I hope it's warm where you're going. Worst case scenario you can always cuddle up for warmth!

@Apollo Im Burning: Take pepper spray. I'm sure you know the basic camping protocols like douse your fire and hang your trash, but no one ever seems to mention personal safety. Pepper spray is discreet, effective, non-lethal defense against aggressive people and wildlife. Just be sure you know how to use it ahead of time.

@apollo im burning: Hmm, food wise. I’d bring protein/granola bars, maybe not with chocolate so if it’s hot they don’t melt and become goo.

If you can’t have an open flame, then I am stumped. I normally go the tradition hot dogs over the fire, throw something in tin foil and heat it up method.

@Apollo Im Burning: A burn ban, huh? That sucks, really. My favorite part of camping is the fire. In that case, pre-cook any food you want to have so you're not living off of granola. Take a can opener if you take canned foods. Try to avoid using styrofoam anythings because bits can break off and hurt the wildlife. Some camping grounds will charge you if you don't clean up after yourself well enough.

Since there's no fire allowed, if I were you I'd buy a bunch of glowstick products for a bit of light at night.

@Apollo Im Burning: If it looks like it is going to rain badly then dig a hole around your tent. Water will flow in there and not in your tent.
Also use good tent pegs and not cheap ones. Trust me if it get's windy and stuff you do not want to have your tent pegs to go lose. So always use metal ones. More on tent pegs: https://www.campingintheforest.co.uk/things-to-do/articles/guides/guide-to-tent-pegs-designs

@apollo im burning: Idk if you already have a tent but if you haven't gotten one yet do yourself a favor and buy an instant dome tent. They are the easiest thing in the world to set up literally takes maybe one minute, literally just unfold and pop it up. Best purchase I ever made.
