((sorry for the long post, but got to make an introduction))
They were going to arrive on the day before Halloween. At the beginning of the school year, their headmaster Igor Karkaroff had announced that this year the Triwizard Tournament would be played again. The school was a lot smaller than Hogwarts and it had less students, but only a hand full with be able to come along. Viktor Krum would of course be one of them, since he was the international Quidditch player.
Karkaroff started to talk to students in private, paid visits to the classes and talked to all the teachers. He wanted to take those that he could use and of 'good' families. A week before they would leave for Hogwarts, Karkaroff gathered everyone and announced who was coming with him.

Much to Viljam's surprise, he was picked as one of the 'lucky' few. He didn't need to pack a lot of things, simply because he never unpacked. To him, it was easier to keep all his items organised in his trunk. On one side, he had his clothes, on the other side his books and, in the middle, were the supplies and quills.

The day arrived and they had to go to a big ship in a nearby lake. Every student was there, to say goodbye and wish them luck. Viljam was the first on the boat, because he didn't had to say goodbye to a lot of people. He had 2 brothers, but they were a lot older than him and no longer in school. He said goodbye to the few friends he had and dragged his trunk onto the ship. As soon as the others were also there, Karkaroff told them to sail it. He left a enchanted map and went into his office, to not be seen until the end of the trip.

They had just resurfaced and Karkaroff told them to get into their best uniform and get ready to leave the ship. They could see the students of Hogwarts lined up next to the entrance, from small to big. They were guided in, through the crowd and following the students of Beauxbatons. Walking into the great hall, Viljam stopped and looked around. He looked at the long tables, where the students of Hogwarts were now sitting, the ceiling and, at the other side of the hall, the teachers of Hogwarts together with Karkaroff and Olympe Maxime.
While staring up at the ceiling again, Viljam felt a hand grab the back of his neck and push him to one of the tables. "We sit here," said Krum and pushed him over to the Slytherin table.

When the announcement was made that Hogwarts would be hosting the TriWizard Tournament, the entire school was buzzing with excitement... all except one particular Ravenclaw. Tristan found little about it to be excited about. Just like most everything else except for his studies. He was worried about whichever students were unlucky enough to be chosen, but that was about it.

He was mildly impressed with the other schools arrivals. He didn't plan on getting to know any of them, because they would surely be busy with their studies -as he would be- and the tournament. One Durmstrang student, though, happened to catch his interest. He was obviously younger than the other boys, with bright blond hair. He seemed a bit dazed with the overall appearance of the hall. He couldn't help but wonder about that one. He watched quietly as Krum dragged him towards the Slytherin table, and gave a little sigh. Of course they wouldn't get the boys' school placed with them. He'd heard the rumors about Durmstrang, but doubted them a little. Surely a dark school would have been shut down long ago, right?

He kept stealing glances at the Slytherin table, watching all of the new students even though his eyes kept falling onto the blond.

The Slytherin students made room for the Durmstrang students to sit. Dumbledore had a speech about the tournament, being nice to the students of other schools and how it was to get to know each other. He then proceeded to tell how the selection would go, by a cup in the entrance hall inside a magic circle. No one under the age of 17 was allowed to enter and that the magic circle would prevent that from happening. They, the students who were old enough, would get a chance to put their name in the Goblet the next morning. Then, in the evening, after the Halloween feast, they would announce who would be the person from each school to compete. Viljam glared sideways at Krum, knowing he would be the one to compete for Durmstrang. He didn't mind though. He already heard that people had died in the tournament before and he would rather stay alive, thank you very much.

At the end of the speech, what Viljam only heard half of, Dumbledore clapped his hands and on their table appeared golden plated, cups and cutlery. There also appeared a lot of plates with a lot of different kinds of food. Viljam looked around at his table. He knew some of the students at his table, but not because of good things. Most people there that he knew, he knew them because their parents were Death Eaters and he had seen them in the newspapers. Drinking some pumpkin juice, he looked at bit further at the other tables.

'4 houses, I see, and all wearing different colours,' he thought to himself. He grabbed a chicken leg and ate it slowly. He wasn't all that hungry after the trip. He still felt a bit sea sick, but he knew he had to eat something. A few of his schoolmates were talking to the people at the table, asking them about the castle and the teachers. Not that it would matter, since they would get their classes on the ship. At least, the others would. He wasn't too sure if he would also have them there. He was the only student of his year there and he doubted that Karkaroff would want to do classes just for him. Viljam certainly hoped he wouldn't. He wanted to see the castle, learn things of other teachers and, most of all, meet the students.
"Eat, Viljam," said another student next to him, "You got to keep up your strength. We did enough work today and we can't have you fainting somewhere on the road back. Who would cure you? You're the healer talent."
Viljam gave a weak smile and grabbed himself some pumpkin pie. He looked around in the great hall some more, while he slowly ate the pie. This time, he was only looking at the students at the other tables, wondering how they would feel to have a 'dark' school there.

Tristan watched the students from the other schools, Durmstrang and Beauxbaton alike. He didn't usually eat much, and tonight was no exception. He was usually to busy with his books, or lost in thought. Eyes skimming over the Durmstrang boys,, he was surprised to find a set meet his. He offered a slight, shy smile before looking away, back down at his boo and food.

Going over the 'blue house', his eyes met with a guy sitting at the table. The guy gave a weak smile and then turned his gaze away. Viljam's eyes lingered a bit longer on the guy, but then also turned his eyes away.
Was the guy looking at him because he was of the other school, that would compete his, because he was thinking of the reputation of Durmstrang or maybe he had just looked at Viljam like Viljam had looked at him.

Dinner was over and Dumbledore stood up again. The complete hall was quiet as he made another speech. Viljam grabbed an apple, that was still on the table, and put it in his pocket. Tomorrow would be the first day at school, but he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep any time soon. Especially not on that ship.
When Dumbledore was done, he clapped in his hands again. "Chip, chip," he said, "off to bed."
Viljam got up, like everyone and walked to the doors slowly.

As the Great Hall emptied of students, Tristan packed up his books and headed for the doors, talking to a couple of his younger housemates. They'd come to him for help with part of their charms homework. Everyone in Ravenclaw knew he was best in Flitwicks class, and it was nothing to do with house favoritism. He worked hard for his grades, and loved charms, both in practice and the theory behind them, and creating new ones.

Distracted as he was, he didn't notice the Slytherins next to them... not until he was shoved and told to get moving or get out of the way. He tried to keep his feet, but stumbled into a couple of boys ahead of them- Durmstrang, judging by their uniforms- nearly knocking them over as well. "Sorry..." he said, blushing a bit as he stepped back, looking up at the boy and only just noticing it was the same blond he'd met gazes with earlier.

Following the people from his school, and followed by a group of Slytherin, Viljam walked out of the hall. Most of his school mates were talking to other people, mainly from Slytherin. He could hear Karkaroff talk to Krum, who had a cold, and offering to let someone bring him some warm wine. Krum refused but someone else did want some.
"The offer was not for you," said Karkaroff stern.

Behind him, Viljam could hear some disturbance. Some of the Slytherin students told someone else to move or get out of the way. By the feeling, the person had not done what they were told to do. Viljam felt that person stumble against him, but got up very quickly. Viljam turned around and saw that it was the same guy he had locked eyes with earlier.
"It's okay," he said, "Are you okay?"
He looked around and saw a group of Slytherins walk away quickly.
"Let me, guess it was them who knocked you over?" he said, while pointing over his shoulder to the group of Slytherin who just walked away.

The flush on Tristan's cheeks remained as the Durmstrang boy addressed him. "Y-Yeah. I'm fine... thanks." He said, fidgeting slightly, feeling a little embarrassed for this to be his first interaction with the foreign school. He shrugged slightly when Viljam asked who'd pushed him. It was hard to tell exactly who it was... At least, that's what he'd tell anyone who asked. In reality, he knew exactly which student it was who'd shoved him, who'd muttered the derogatory slurs about his heritage, and the two who'd laughed. "It doesn't matter." He said with another shrug. "I'm used to it."

"Used to it?" asked Viljam, "Are you serious? If you push someone in my school and don't apologise right away, you're in for deep trouble. The last person who did, spend 3 weeks in detention with Karkaroff and that isn't someone you want to spend a lot of time with."
He said the last thing softly, because he could hear Karkaroff coming closer. "Viljam, we have to go to the ship," said Karkaroff.
"Oh, yeah, right," said Viljam with a small nod. "Well, I guess I'll see you around."

Viljam turned around and walked after the people of his school. The others were walking fast because it was raining lightly. He could hear them talk about the Triwizard Tournament and how they were all going to enter. The grand price was one thousand galleons. Some of the other students had never even seen so much money, let alone own it. Viljam, on the other hand, had seen it. He came from a wealthy, pureblood family and his parents made sure everyone knew that. Viljam didn't really care about it that much. Sure it was nice to have money on hand, but it also meant that people saw him as someone he hated the most: a death eater. He didn't care about blood purity or anything.

Suddenly he noticed that he was already on the ship. The other students already went in, to have a warm drink and then go to bed. Viljam staid up a bit, outside, and stared at the castle. It was all calm and peaceful and he could see how slowly all the lights turned off.

(Apologies for my absence. Life's been busy and my muse was apparently comatose. I'll try to be quicker.)

Tristan's year had had the fewest boys sorted into Ravenclaw- a bonus some days. It meant there were only two boys other than himself in the dorm room... and they were both heavy sleepers. It meant that when Tristan couldn't sleep, he didnt have to worry about waking them with noise or lights. And that happened far more often than not.

He had himself wedged onto the window ledge in their dorm room, parchment, quill and textbook all within reach... none of it in use, though. Tristan was too busy lost in thought, staring out over the moonlit grounds, eyes drawn towards the newest feature- the large ship in the middle of the lake. The squid was nowhere to be seen, so it either wasn't bothered by it, or was hiding in the depths. He watched as a few of the lights on the large boat went out, some students must be wanting an early night for all the action the next day. He could see a few figures moving around on deck, just barely visible in the dark, little more than shifting shadows. He could catch a brief glimpse of one lone, still figure every now and again. Pondering briefly which of the foreign schools students it could be. He doubted it to be Krum, or any of Durmstrang's other would-be champions. That left only one... the younger boy he'd been shoved into after dinner. He smiled softly, wondering what the other boy could be thinking of... and himself thinking back on his earlier words, how the Slytherins behaviour wouldn't be tolerated in the other school. What about Beauxbaton? Would Madame Maxime and the professors there tolerate such actions and words? Especially at a time like this... they should be showing a welcoming, united front to the other schools...

Sighing softly, Tristan got up, putting his homework away- thank Merlin it wasn't due til the end of the week, anyways. He headed towards his bed, pausing and glancing back to the window as he reached for his pajamas to get changed. Not tired yet, he grabbed his want and a warm cloak instead, heading out of the dorm and down to the common room. From there, out into the hallway, creeping silently along the corridors and down the stairs towards the doors. He was amazed every time with how easy it was to sneak out of the castle- he'd only ever been caught twice in his five years at Hogwarts. Out of the castle and across the grounds, slowing when he was out of the light cast from some first floor rooms which were still lit with the curtains open. A beautiful night with minimal cloud cover, and a silvery crescent moon. He loved wandering the grounds after curfew... always so peaceful, especially the lake. Calm, almost a perfect mirrored reflection, distorted by the slightest of ripples caused by the ships gentle rocking.

Looking over the land, up to the castle, Viljam could see someone leave the school. He had tried that in his own school several times, but he almost always got caught. He always had an excuse ready though. Later, when he was finished with school, he wanted to become a healer, but for that, he needed the best grades in a lot of classes. Potions and Herbology were just 2 of them.
When he would sneak out of their castle and got caught, he always said he needed to check on some plants or pick some of them at a certain time, to make a potion out of it. A lot of times, the professors believed him and let him go or send him back to his dorm without punishment.

The figure who sneaked out of the castle was coming closer and closer to the ship. Viljam was watching him walk while he thought of what his time at Hogwarts would be like. He had only really talked to the Slytherins and he had seen how they treated the other houses, or at least one of them. Viljam personally didn't like that and he knew that Krum would feel the same way. Both of them, and a few others who were still in Durmstrang, hated the blood purity thing that was going around and the students of Slytherin showed signs that they were totally into it.
When the student was close enough, Viljam could see it was the student who got shoved into him earlier that day. As he smiled and waved at the student, he hear Karkaroff shout he had to come in and go to bed. It was getting late and they had done enough for the day Tomorrow, the tournament and a new school routine would begin. With a sigh, Viljam turned around and walked to his dorm.

Waking up early next morning, it took Viljam a moment to realise where he was. He then remembered everything what had happened yesterday. The sailing of the ship, arriving at Hogwarts, the welcome feast and parts of Dumbledore's speech. He got up and got dressed, as the first one. He put his coat on and started to walk to the castle of Hogwarts. He walked into the Great Hall and saw that there were just a few students up. Looking around, he saw the students of Slytherin wave at him to get him to join them, but he pretended he didn't see it. He decided to sit somewhere else that day.
The Ravenclaw was nearly empty, save from 2 first years who were studying hard. Viljam walked to the front, near the professors and sat down at that table. He got himself some oatmeal and coffee and stared into space while eating his breakfast.

Watching the figure on deck, Tristan saw him wave. He couldn't help but smile and wave back. As the student- he was certain it was Viljam- turned to go in at the call of his headmaster, Tristan went and settled himself near the shore, back against a tree. Casting a quick warming spell, he relaxed, the soft sounds of nature soothing him enough to eventually fall asleep. He woke early, the first hint of sunlight just barely peaking over the horizon. Getting up, he brushed himself off, stretching, before heading quickly towards the castle. It was still early enough that most students and professors would still be asleep.

A long shower and a quick chat with half-awake roommates later found him back down in the Great Hall, ready for classes. He made his way to the Ravenclaw table, surprised to see a Durmstrang student there. It took him only a moment to recognise the stranger, and he offered a small smile as he sat down in his usual seat, across from the boy. He had a feeling that the elves knew where each student sat, for the moment he sat a cup of coffee appeared in front of him. It wasnt often that students were allowed it, but he'd asked the house elves... and they were more than willing to accomodate his request. "Good morning..." He said, giving a soft smile.

Slowly, the hall started to fill with students. Most of the Ravenclaw table were surprised someone of Durmstrang wanted to sit with them and most of the Slytherins were looking angry because he didn't want to join their table. Professor McGonagall had walked up to him, to tell him most of his lessons would be in the castle. The classes that were similar to what he had in Durmstrang would be with the Hogwarts houses, but some other classes, like Dark Arts and Sport, would be given to him in a private class on and around the ship. After breakfast, McGonagall would take him to the office of Dumbledore. There he would have to put on the hat, to get sorted into a house and get his books and schedule.
"You might want to bring someone," McGonagall said, "There are a lot of books to take with you and the weather outside is nasty. Can't have a book flying into the lake, can we?"

Still think about it, he suddenly heard a voice nearby saying good morning to him. He looked to where the voice was coming from, refocused his eyes and saw it was the boy who bumped into him the other day.
"Good morning," said Viljam taking a sip from his coffee, "Had a good night?"

Tristan's smile widened just slightly as he gave a nod. "I did... and you?" He asked, curious to know if the other teen had slept well after retreating from the deck of the ship last night. He put some food onto his plate- fruit, scrambled eggs, and toast- and took a few bites. "My name is Tristan, by the way... We didn't have much time to introduce ourselves last night."

My shadows the only one that walks beside me

"Hmm, it was okay," said Viljam. He didn't have much sleep, because of the movements of the ship. On their way to Hogwarts, he had gotten sick when they first started to sail. He got a potion of someone else, so the sickness would go away, but still didn't feel too good.
He grabbed an apple and cleaned it on his sleeve. "Yeah my headmaster doesn't like it when we linger too much. He rather have us all walk around like soldiers and do as he wishes. But anyway my name is Viljam.
"Talking of Headmasters, I have to go to your headmaster's office after breakfast. I'm going to get sorted into a house and follow a bunch of classes in your castle. Have you ever been in his office?"

"Well. It's nice to meet you, Viljam." Tristan said, offering a smile and his hand for a shake. "I'm not sure which is worse... an overbearing headmaster who treats his students like soldiers, or one who doesn't seem to care about the safety of his students at all... I've been to Dumbledore's office a few times... I could show you the way and give you a hand with your books and stuff, if you want." He offered, unsure if Viljam would accept his help, or get one of his own schoolmates to help.

We'll carry on

"Karkaroff doesn't care too much about safety either," said Viljam, shaking Tristan's hand, "When something happens, he just say it will toughen up you up. The only times he cares is when something happens to the famous students, such as a Krum, or to those who have parents on, let's say, his side."
He didn't dare to say out loud that Karkaroff used to be a Death Eater or that he still thought that way. Last time someone had called him a death eater, they hadn't seen that student for 2 complete weeks after.
He saw how Karkaroff walked into the great hall, followed by the last bit of Durmstrang students. They sat down at the Slytherin table and some looked weird at him for not sitting there. Others, who noticed him sitting at the Ravenclaw table, didn't think too much of it and gave a shrug.
When Tristan offered to show Viljam the way to Dumbledore's office and help with bringing his books back to the boat, Viljam's attention got drawn back to the Tristan.
"Oh yeah, that would be great actually," said Viljam, "I could ask one of the other Durmstrang students, but they will all have class soon. They're already late with their first class, actually." He looked at his watch with a frown. He shook his head slightly and turned back to Tristan once again.
"I will also get a schedule then. Would you also be willing to help me find my first class?"
