"I would imagine so." Addison replied.
He then just held her a little closer, and looked at the clock.
"....wonder what caused this..." he mumbled.
"It can't be something in the air... can it?" he wondered.
"Some... kind of mind control?" he wondered further.
"I just... don't know."

"But the air feels unnatural out there." She paused.
"Whatever it is... hasn't gotten in here yet."

"This room has... a paranoid amount of barriers on it." Addison admitted.
"Mostly leftover from when Mom ran the place." he said.
"She had a number of people that wanted to secretly oust her, because she was a female. Or because of her last name." he continued.
"I mean, we only learned this when Ash pseudo-retired, but still." he mumbled.
"He liked Mom a lot. And did all he could to protect her. The barriers here, included."

"I've added a couple to this mess of barriers, and I deal with the rather.... unsavoury individuals that shouldn't even be here inthe first palce. " She added before pausing.
"Not that they really want to secretly boot you outta the throne, but they cause problems otherwise." He was already aware of this, aware of how she did it from the shadows, but he didn't know what or when.

Addison sighed quietly in response.
"Yeah." he said.
"I know." he told her.
"But you still refuse to tell me when these have happened, or WHO the targets are/were." he commented.
"Which is... irritating, but I suppose I can see why." he went on.
"Just so long as things run smoothly here." he said further. "I try my best to keep this place fair, but enjoyable, just like Mom did." he finished.

"can you imagine what it would be like if we had a kid, and THEY ran the joint?" She asked.
"This place would be great, but have one day a week that all hell would break loose, probably." She paused a moment.
'And being half draydin, who knows if that'd be a premediated date, or if it'd be random every time."

"Hm." he mumbled.
"I wonder..." he said.
"There'd need to be someone whose job was to be their punching bag." he told her.
"Like... well, Lindsay." he said further.
"Maybe Sammy. She DID inherit the phoenix in him." he went on.

"Attention, members of Candentus Lux!" he said.
"Effective immediately, you are all on paid vacation, as the guild will be undergoing inspect." he told them.
"Please leave in the next hour, and you will be paid the usual steady rate. I will let you all know when the guild is to be returned to!" he continued.
"For now, please leave, and go back to your homes, your families, or wherever you feel safe!" he then finished.

She was silent as she moved down the hall. She didn't know what it was that was going on, but she did know that there was far more deaths in the hospital, on her watch, than there would normally be. Nevermind the increase in those admitted. The death toll was higher, and she couldn't understand why.
It had been about six weeks since it started, by this point, and she was running herself ragged. Thankfully, due to her mana, she was able to suppress it all quite effectively. Those that knew her particularly well, family for instance, could see through it.
But she was making it a point to avoid them, for that specific reason.
Plus, she was ridiculously busy at the moment.
She turned into a room and spent about thirty minutes trying to save their life before marking it a failure. She didn't have the time to continue, to fight for everyone as she normally would. She was a lot quicker to sign off on it now, than normal
"Dammit." She growled before heading to another call. It was another code blue, of course.

As she walked down the hallway, she heard a voice coming from a nearby room. A familiar male voice. It was one of the doctors that had apprenticed under Rene Calder when he was still alive, and had worked there.
"COME ON!" he yelled.
"NO! FIGHT, DAMN YOU!" he demanded.
"Don't give up, you-" he continued, before suddenly pausing.
"Damn it all!" he cursed.
"What the HELL is going ON, here!?" he added.
It seemed that he had gotten Calder's passion for the patients as well.

She sighed before stopping by the door.
"I have no idea." She told him, and it was true.
"But we don't have the time to linger around just one patient." She added.
"Come on. We need to stop others from dying. There's no helping them once the heart gives out lately."

The doctor looked ready to punch a wall at that point, but he stopped, and sighed dejectedly.
"I know." he said.
"Just... I know." he mumbled.
He then stood up and left the room, gritting his teeth as he did so.
"I just don't get it." he said.
"These deaths should be easily prevented, but nothing we're doing is working."

"I don't get it either." She said simply.
"I'm not going to stop fighting though." She added befoer continuing on herself.
"Best you don't either!" was the last thing he heard before she turned a corner.
All day, she continued to try and help everyone she could. Some were saved, but they were very few, and very far between. That's how it was, almost as if they were token saves.
It rubbed her raw.
Nevermind how she felt raw.
This was unnatural, it had to be. With a sigh, she stepped into her honest, having been on an ordered break, and called her brother.
"Yo, Lindsay, you've got access to far more books than most anyone else, and full access to the library I inherited. Can you think of any reason why no matter what we do here..... we can save very few?" She asked as she sat down at her desk.

Lindsay was silent as the question was asked, before sighing.
"I wish I knew." he replied.
"And it's tearing me up that I don't." he said.
"This is inexplicable, and it doesn't make sense, either." he continued. "Either the diseases that have shown up are so old that the cures have been long forgotten, or are impossible to make and/or find, or they're superviruses that resist any and all medicine." he went on.
"But damn it all, this seems SO damn familiar to me." he then cursed.
"Like this situation is not unique to history."

"I know what you mean." She said.
"I feel like I've read about this in the past few centuries of history." She then added.
'It's bugging me, but honeslty? I have other thing to worry about. You know, how about the fact that I've got an entire hospital to try and keep alive." She paused a moment.
"Look, would you mind just letting me know if you find any information?"

"I've been looking through all the texts I can get my hands on to see if I can find anything." he told her.
"And I'd better find something soon." he went on.
"People are getting sick, others have turned violent, some places are reporting inexplicable wilting in vegetation, death counts have been at record highs..." he went on.
"If we don't do something, this may as well be the end of the world!" he said further, before pausing.
"Ok, that MIGHT be hyperbole, but not by much."

He was then silent for a moment, before things seemed to click.
"Wait..." he said.
"Wait, are you...?" he started to ask, before cutting himself off.
"Whatever. I have research to do." he told her.
"Looks like I'm taking it in a new direction, as well."

'Get back to me." Was all his sister said.
"I need to get back to work." He could hear the weariness, how run down she was getting to be in that one statement.
---
She cursed as she sat back on her heels, and held herself up above the porcelain. She was violently ill, and had been incapable of keeping anything down for about two days now. She was lucky o take a drinka dn have that stay down. Food was asking too much.
"Nnng... dammit..." She groaned as she glanced the fullbody mirror that was a shower door. She looked horrid. Her face was gaunt, almost as if she was already dead, her eyes dark, her face excruciatingly pale. She'd also lost a lot of weight quite quickly, as well. She just laid back on the tiled floor, the cold from the tiles seeping through the clothing she was wearing.
"......" She didn't say anything, but that coolness she could feel was definitely a good thing. It almost felt as if there was a fire being quelled slightly.
