Forums The Undercurrent I need a distraction please help
Ugh. It's not working. I keep poking at the site anyway even though I know all I'm doing is annoying other users. I'm just so mad about it and I don't know what to do with all these feelings. I've tried asking other friends but letting go is easier said than done when I get easily fixated on things my brain considers problems. I haaaaaaate my mind so muuuuuch
@strawberry: Mostly the fact that writing is the one skill I'd like to improve and work on long term. Though if I could get a proper degree in something like knitting, that'd be great lol.
Welp, I did it. I snapped. Guess I can't go back to Sapherna now lol. I'm just so tired of people yelling at me for being upset about drama. What am I supposed to do? Roll over and let all this build up? I hate this. I hate caring. I'm so tired...
@strawberry: Oops. I missed your mention!! Q_Q
I like writing in general, but I have an issue with motivation. That's why I like RP, so I have someone writing with me (and someone to poke me to write more lol)
I try to! I finished a blanket not too long ago. I could give you sites with instructions and advice, if you'd like?
@strawberry: I've had a bite, so I'm a bit excited. ^^
The blanket? Oh goodness, it took years... @_@
Well, years off-and-on, but it was also quite a big blanket. It was a really nice pattern that swirled around and had you knit along the sides in a rectangular spiral. It's actually really good for beginners if the bit for the corners doesn't scare you! It's nice mindless work.
@strawberry: It's only a lot of work if you want a big one, but you could make something smaller like a lap blanket or a placemat with maybe a week's effort.
As for expenses... It depends on what kind of yarn you like to use. Acrylic is the basic beginner's yarn and it's dirt cheap, but it's also really scratchy and doesn't look as nice as other more expensive fibers. I like cotton yarn a lot. It holds color nicely, isn't too expensive, and holds a nice shape for when you want to do fancy stitches like lacework and stuff.
And you know, obviously, a project like a blanket will require a LOT of yarn if you want a big one. Mine was made with spare yarn from other projects though, so it doesn't cut too big of a hole in my wallet. The real issue is when you start to like yarn and you find a really cool looking one but don't have a clearcut plan for it... and then you find another and another...
@strawberry: Personally, the best you could make as a beginner is a scarf. They're long and don't require anything except knowing how to cast on, do a basic stitch for agggggges, cast off, and then weave in the two ends (or more if you give it stripes of colorwork).
That's not to say acrylic is bad!! But I wouldn't recommend it if you're making something to be worn.
And uh... yeah, you do lol. I'm lucky to not live in an area with any yarn makers or else I'd be mega poor. @_@
