I’m European, so my lunch is sandwiches most of the time.I go to a store in a neighbouring town, because their bread is so much tastier.

Today, as I was walking home, I noticed a label on the bag, saying ‘vega’.So I got home and checked online what they meant with it.

Apparently, this is the only vegetarian kind of bread. The other kinds have pig hairs cut through it, to make it ‘tastier’ and let it stay good longer.
Eew eew eeeew.

@Kozi: The Netherlands is in the top 5 of the most strict food laws in the world and there are a million different labels for food (from organic to halal).
No bread, next to this one, has a label on it and I only found it by accident.

that... sounds pretty gross. though this vaguely reminds me of when i learned that jello is just
made from boiling animal bones. so weird.
honestly humans have found the strangest things to put in their food over the years...
i wish i could afford to go completely organic.

@Terror 404: jello is usually made with bones (along with animal skin, hooves, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage all boiled together into a goo), but there is a vegan alternative named agar. That is made of Gracilaria, what is a seaweed.

@Kozi: I grew up with Agar. It wasn’t until after my mother passed away that I tried jello for the first time.
I was not impressed.

@Bioshock: they’re not allowed to do that here. Human products are not allowed for consumption and, with animals, the farmer has to tell exactly what he feeds them.
