MENTIONS/PINGS, QUOTING, AND POST STYLE
MENTIONS/PINGS
Mentioning a user gives them a notification and will redirect them to the post via their notifications.
To ping a user, you can either click on the 'mention' button located on the top left/right of their forum post, or by using
Note: you will need to make sure there are no spaces between '@' 'voltie's username' and ':' in order for this to work.
@owl: sends a ping
@ owl: will not send a ping
@ owl : will not send a ping
@owl : will not send a ping
Things to consider when pinging:
Pings will not send in the first post of a thread.
Pings will not send if they are edited into a post
Pings will not send if they have spaces (see above) between '@', 'username' and ':'
Consecutive pings to the same user in the same post will only ping them once.
Pings do not have to be at the start of a message. You can add them in the middle of a post, to let @owl: know they're being pinged.
You can ping yourself
QUOTING
Like pings, quoting a user will send them a notification and re-direct them to the post they've been quoted in.
You can find a quote button on the top left/right of a user's post. This will default to quoting the entire message the voltie sent. Alter as you see fit or keep the entire message.
owl:
Like pings, quoting a user will send them a notification and re-direct them to the post they've been quoted in.
You can also replace the "username" field to change up the title of your quote.
look at this:
quoting things is pretty neat.
[quote=look at this]quoting things is pretty neat.[/quote]
NESTING QUOTES
Quotes can nest. The more [ quote] tags used, the more it will nest.
quote one:message one
quote two:message two
quote three:
message three
[quote=quote one]message one[quote=quote two]message two[quote=quote three]message three[/quote][/quote][/quote]
The closing [/ quote] tag needs to be placed at the end of the post, otherwise you will end up with multiple separate quotes.
quote one:
message one
quote two:
message two
quote three:
message three
[quote=quote one]message one[/quote][quote=quote two]message two[/quote][quote=quote three]message three[/quote]
Things to consider when quoting
Quoting will not send a notification to a user on the first post of a thread
Quoting will not send a notification to a user if edited into a post
Only the first quote will send a notification in a post if multiple quotes are used consecutively in the same post.
Quoting will apply all BBCode within it, so posts are likely to break when quoting a user with post style. A recommendation to overcome this is to remove their BBCode when quoting.
Quoting a user who has been pinged will not notify the previous user (example: Simone pings @owl:, then quotes that post with the ping. Owl will not receive the ping from the quoted post)
POST STYLE
Voltra has a feature that allows you to create and save a format to apply to your posts if you desire. You can access this here or by going to the top-right of the webpage > settings > forum settings.
Post style allows you to utilize all the BBCode to make your post unique. The main thing to keep in mind when making a post format is where your [post] code goes. This code represents the actual post content you're making on the site.
Any formatting you wish to appear before a message should be placed before [post]. Just as any formatting you want to appear after the message should be placed after [post].
EXAMPLE
๐ค๐ค๐ค
This would be my post on Voltra!
๐ค๐ค๐ค
[align=center][font=century gothic][size=12]๐ค๐ค๐ค[hr]
[post]
[hr]
๐ค๐ค๐ค[/align][/size][/font]
Things to consider with post style formatting
Because [post] is just telling the feature where the message body will be, certain BBCode won't show up on your preview (font, bold/italics/underline/strike) as it is (in most cases) applied to your message.
- Use the Test Forum to check to see if these combinations are to your liking.
Where you place [post] can affect the appearance of your post style as well. Again - the testing forum is a very nice combination to use when creating a post style if you want to make sure everything looks good!
Post Style does not count toward currency earning!
You can toggle applying your post format to a message by clicking the small check box in the bottom right corner of the forum message body.
- Note: The toggle resets with each new message, so if you're wanting to make multiple posts without your post style being applied, be sure to check the box!
To my knowledge, there is no character limit to post style. You may want to double check the Forum Rules to make sure that any images/text/etc. is not in violation to your style, however.
