so this is more an observation than anything, but while being on vacation, most places i’ve visited (in this vacation and previous) have recycled and been generally clean litter-wise, and their water has been drinkable etc etc, but i visited Aqaba, Jordan yesterday and they didn’t seem to recycle.
now, at home we do recycle and everyone i know has the appropriate bins, but the city centre and various streets are not the best since the laws aren’t really enforced by police and there are no littering fines being given which is sad. as someone who wants the planet and everything on it to actually LIVE it saddens me to see that some places don’t recycle at all or take care of the earth.
on the ship there are various notices to conserve water and many recycling bins, they encourage us to reuse towels to lessen the amount of laundry they do, and the lights in our staterooms need a card to turn on so that when u leave the room and take the card with u the lights go off, which i guess lessens the electricity they use.
the thing is, the uk is generally cold weather wise but last week my mum told me that it was one of the hottest easter’s they’d had. it was about 30 degrees (celsius) which is hotter than the average summer in wales. the uk doesn’t generally have a/c’s like in america because we’ve never needed them, but i guess it’s time we got them installed because it’s getting MUCH hotter nowadays.
basically, recycle and try to use less energy, for money AND the planet.

Thank you for listening!

Ironically, I feel like recycling should not be needed for most things. If our economy was designed on repair & refills, instead of replacement, there'd be less trash, less need for recycling, meaning less energy costs and there'd be less litter.
There's a lot going on in our economic system that is allowing for such things to happen, and frankly I feel your pain.

Was it not proven that the worst offenders of global warming are the corporations, and the overwhelming majority do little or nothing to combat it themselves?

i’m going to put this all in one reply bc i’d probably repeat myself a bunch if i didn’t SO:
sadly it IS corporations that contributed the most to global warming, and i’m sure we all know that, and it is annoying that they’re not seeming to do ANYTHING about it. people have said that we won’t be around to see the world die because of us, but i don’t know how true that is since i haven’t looked into it. (does anyone know that’s true?)
i wish that we could just recycle everything into new things, but since that’s not possible, shouldn’t there be something we can do to stop landfills from getting anymore full than they are?
another thing is how mcdonald’s and probably other places have introduced paper straws, but still use plastic cutlery and cup lids. doesn’t that defeat the purpose?
is there a way we can bring companies into this argument that doesn’t end up with them just ignoring the problem? it’s good that most people are aware of the problem, but if big companies don’t also address the problem it’s just never going to end, right?

note: i’m aware that i need to do a lot of research, once i’m back home i probably will. i just wanted to make a post somewhere because it was on my mind last night and as much as i hate the world and what it’s becoming, i don’t want the planet to die

Thank you for listening!
