I straight up stole my neighbor’s cat once.
Cutest, tiniest little grey tigg. She showed up at my screen door, battered and hungry. She was verryyyy VERY pregnant. She looked like a tiny cat had eaten a basketball. And they were beating her. ;_;
I let her in, and she felt safe enough to have her babies in my closet. :3 Rather than in her own home. I realized she was crying at the door, because they were coming and she needed a safe spot.
Out of this tiny cat came SEVEN BABIES. omggggg
To this day I feel no guilt. We moved, and she and the babies came with us.

@Kozi: in that case, I’d do tue same in a heartbeat and take any other pets they might have.
i love kittens, but my house is not kitten safe, it's okay for cats but kittens are little trouble makers who will find the one hiding spot that you cannot get them out safely without breaking stuff. tho my grown cat i used to have was guilty of getting into the walls and under the floor. (access panel in hall was left open and he wouldn't come back the way he came.)

If I know someone, they will get the kitties for free. Otherwise, they will sell them.
