@mdom: The technique behind creating the animation is crazy. I mean, I don't know that much about it but I know it must take so much knowledge, skill, and effort. D: It's so beyond me.
I've done some really shitty stop motion on my own, and it's very VERY difficult to do. Especially on the size and scale of something like Kubo and the Two-Strings. All the tiny little movements and changes you have to make. These movies are so good and such art. It's a shame they're so expensive to make, more often than not they actually don't make a profit. Even when they're big hits.
There's this really talented photographer on Tumblr who makes small stop motion videos with her ball-jointed doll. It is fascinating to me.

@Another Movie Addict: Yeah, that's always the worst. :/ Putting so much blood, sweat and tears into something for it to be, well... a financial "waste." When, in all other senses, it's anything but.
@superbearwars: It's such a shame, because Laika's movies are so beloved but rarely make any money. Hell they're so good that I prefer the movie Coraline over the book (sometimes an unpopular opinion).
@Another Movie Addict: Yeah. I can't imagine what that must be like for the creator--then again, since I don't know how they feel about it, I guess it's not my place to be sad.
I've watched a few behind the scenes documentaries on these movies. The work that goes into each movie, more than that into each character. Hell Coraline's outfits on the puppets? Was hand-made. Someone sat there for hours, days, weeks with super tiny needles hand knitting each garment. There must be so much love going into it all.
@Another Movie Addict: I know! It's crazy... Even just making the characters talk, making their eye movements is sooo much work--it's insane. x_x I can't imagine working on a project like that.
Granted that's why we don't get movies from Laika or whoever did Wallace and Gromit/Chicken Run very often, just every few years.
But that's why I have such a hard time tolerating lazy animation.

Definitely worth the wait, though. And yeah, I'd say it sets a new standard for animation.
dear Lord I need a new signature someone help me
Always worth the wait. >w> I do still need to watch Boxtrolls.
Yeah it's a ton of work @_@
boxtrolls was so cute! And Richard Ayoade is one of the voice actors.

It looks cute, but I just keep putting off watching it for some reason.
And full of cheese.
Not always. Not that stuff made over in Europe that uses live maggots that you're supposed to eat with the cheese.
Yeah I'm not that curious, so I'm pretty glad it's banned in the US.
I think I would have to pass on the maggot cheese, as much as I love cheese!
I forgot to say hi Tuijp <3
sorry I keep missing you, I'm trying to get ready for a trip to see my grand babies!
